Diazepam reduction

I’ve been on diazepam at 5mg a day for over a year. I usually have two half tablets of 2mg tablets. Whenever I reduce the dosage to 4mg, after about three days, I only get about two or three hours sleep, after about three or four nights of little sleep I start to get suicidal thoughts and very depressed.

I’ve recently changed GP. The GP I saw today, said she was reluctant to prescribe diazepam and she said 5mg a day was a high dose. Yet, the GP I saw at my last practice who was a senior partner, said she wanted me to try and reduce the dosage, but as 5mg a day is a low dosage I might have to stay on it for life.

The GP today only gave me enough diazepam for a week. She gave me 2mg tablets with instructions of take two or three a day when required. She said that come back in a week’s time and I want you to have reduced your dosage.

I feel very frightened that I may have my diazepam stopped or reduced to 4mg a day or less, and find myself with little sleep causing me to have suicidal thoughts and being very depressed.
