Globus? Anxiety? Or Abscessed tooth?

Tomorrow makes a whole month that i have been dealing with my issues..

on June 8th, i was eating a piece of sausage & it felt as if it got stuck in my throat. I had a small panic attack & ended up going to the ER. They said nothing was blocking my airways, go home and drink fluids & it would eventually go down..

2 days later, i still felt the sensation of something being in my throat, so i went to the ER again. They did xrays & showd me that nothing was there & referred me to a GI specialist..

I went to the specialist & he called this Globus Hystericus. He explained how it can make you hysterical & feel as if you are choking or cannot breathe.

He prescribed me Protonix 1x a day..

My body was going into panick real bad & at that point i would shake & heart would beat outta my chest everytime i would try to eat or drink anything, so the hospital gave me anxiety medicine..

i took the meds for about a week & they seemed to help calm me down..

The specialist made me an appointment to have a EGD. They stretched my throat & did some dilation as well.

It showed i had inflammation in my stomach & acid reflux really really bad. They then upped my protonix to 2xs a day and added Zantac 300mg for night time.

At this point, i have done lost 8 pounds due to not eating & im on meal replacement drinks to be able to have something in my system.

Its like my body gets scared to eat.. idk..

Fast foward to them doing ANotHER EGD. They said everything looked normal, so they want to do the esophagus manometry and the bravo - 48 hr swallow study go monitor all of the acid in my stomach..

At this point, it doesnt feel like food stuck in my throat anymore, it feels like a lump of mucus.. and anytime i drink anything, try to eat, etc I immediately have to cough up some mucus!

Well, i also have been having problems out of my back, bottom right side tooth, so i decided to go see a dentist yesterday & he told me it is abscessed. He put me on antibiotics & he is going to pull it on Thursday.

My question is...

Could the inflammation in my stomach be from the infection in my tooth?

Could this abscessed tooth be causing all of this thats been going on with me for the last month?

Has anybody else been through anything similar to this??

Hi no I doubt a connection. I think globular can come on at

Anytime. I think it’s linked to anxiety I do think it’s scary first

Few weeks but you do learn

To control it as you learn your not going to choke or suffocate

Etc  I’ve had it 6 months. I’ve also go reflux I try to keep busy and

I take. Magnesium glycinate 200 mg.  I think it really helps !  Don’t think about it and keep busy lol

    Hi Monica,

Same thing happened to me a month ago, as I’ve posted a lot about it and still didn’t figure out why.

It happend out of nowhere, during a normal dinner I felt something stuck at my nasopharynx(the back of my soft palate, where my nose meets my throat. I got panicky immediately as I was swallowing my saliva really really hard, to the point where I feel I got no saliva to swallow. I had the driest mouth and throat ever. I felt it was a piece of gluey mucus stuck in there, which couldn’t be swallowed down or spitted out. The second day I ended up going to the ER as well as I felt I had difficulty swallowing, because I was afraid of food getting stuck there with the mucus. They checked me and waved me off saying that it’s impossible that food would get stuck at the back of my nose. I than made countless trips to my GP, did ENT endoscopy, gastroscopy...nothing wrong was found. My GP told me it’s just anxiety, but I can really feel the mucus like a post nasal drip(but I don’t have runny nose at all my nose is very dry). I know Globus Sensation but mine is nothing like a globus below my Adam’s apple. Mine is like mucus and it’s way upper.

I’m still suffering. I got so scared and stressful about eating now. I had time like you, couldn’t eat a single thing, lived on those protein shakes. i was dropping weight so rapidly because of this f***king thing. I tried hard not to focus on it too much but gosh whenever I swallow my saliva or drink water I feel something is there, it’s terrible.

I don’t think there’s anything to do with your tooth. Where exactly is your mucus stuck at?

Yesterday was the first time in a month that I actually ate something.. i never realized how good a grilled cheese was lol

Yes everytime i eat or drink ANYtHiNG !! I instantly have to cough of mucus.

Its Feels like mucus is stuck right at the back of my throat. Like right where an adams apple would be if i were a guy..

i talked to a dentist, and she said that my tooth could have to do with this because swallowing the infection can cause inflammation in stomach & can cause acid reflux to be worse, & mucus.. so idk. I get it pulled Thursday & ive been on antibiotics, so i guess we will see.
