Son is always sick with a cough

I have a 5 year old soon to be 6 son who seems to be sick every week . we have been told unofficially he has asthma( too young to test) but somtimes i question that just because he seems to be fine when running around when playing . he only seems to cough at the most random times . im tired if giving him over the counter medicene to treat his symptoms along with nebuilzer and inhaler . every time he does get sick the cough is worst of it , and it seems he has a strong gag reflex because anytime he has a strong episide of cough like every minute cough he throws up . sometimes it takes an eposide of throwing up to sooth his coughing . He was the same when a baby when got fuzzy he would throw up . I’m afraid this is something more than just asthma and hoping for any advice any parents may have ? I’m going to request his doctor to check for acid reflux maybe ? This constant coughing and throwing up is concerning that could damage his throat some way or another. It’s been worse since school started. Any advice please help.
