Swollen lymph nodes in groin

so I've been having horrible pain at the top of my left leg for 2 weeks now, I went to see my gp about it today and he examined me and said he thinks it's a groin strain and that I also have a few swollen lymph nodes. he said it's nothing to worry about ànd to come back in 2 weeks if it's still the same. I haven't done anything to strain my groin I just seemed to wake up with it one morning. so my question is, can a strained groin cause lymph nodes to swell up and also should they be swollen for 2 weeks or more? I've been taking painkillers but nothing seems to take the pain away. I wake up every morning hoping the pain has gone but it's still the same all day every day:(
