Quick update....I'm now 3-4dys off cymbalta (cold turkey). I'd said I wasn't having any w/d symtoms. Now, after just crying my eyes out for 20m. and NO apparent reason, I must confess, I think I was WRONG!!😱😢

Waiting to hear from my doc as to how to proceed.

Probably take a tablet - and then go about reducing the dose in a rather more leisurely manner! Which is what this says the FDA recommends

and may help you with some ideas - and to know you are not alone.

Thank you! Still haven't heard from my doc (3+hrs ago) and still a "hot mess"! Am going to take another dosage of med. and place another call.😭 When I start cryin' cuz I just ran out of milk, I know somethin's up!

Lynda you should read the instructions of stopping cymbalta.  The capsules should be reduced slowly.

Googlethe information  up on the internet. No wonder you feel tearful.

😭😭😭....tearful doesn't even begin to explain this!! And I'm the one who LAUGHS all the time! YIKES!

Lynda, I agree with Eileen, take a tablet and then reduce as per instructions, this is definitely a medication that you cannot go off cold turkey! We like to think that we have SOME control over these meds but the truth be known, we don't! You don't want to mess with this one, check out how you reduce and then do it by the book, easier in the long run! Hope you'll be ok?

      Hi lynda62707

It sure is!...especially when you are trying to deal with other medications apart from pred, as if their not bad enough yo deal with on their own. Well i do hope he gets back to you soon at least you will feel a little better when you get professional advice as to what to do next to alleviate your withdrawal symptoms....keep us posted ....am willing him/her to call you asap...with you all the way...👍...i'l bid you goodnight..

It really does pay to ask for advice BEFORE you try something - had you said you were going to stop your cymbalta we'd have explained to you even if you didn't manage to speak to the doctor. And it also helps a lot in the early days of PMR to sit back and try to keep calm and be patient. If you ask here someone will have been there before and tell you what to expect. When it happens it is a bit easier and not quite so scary if you were expecting it.

As Celia says, some of it is the meds, some is you and it WILL improve. But when you are multiple meds it isn't as simple as you'd think. No, there may not be a listed interaction between A and B - that may change if you add C to the mix but no-one is aware of it. The more chemicals you add to the mix, the more explosive it may become and then removing one may really upset the balance as you have found. There is a lot of evidence building that chronic inflammation may contribute to mental health problems - so in fact, allowing the pred to have time to work may have improved the depression on its own. There isn't always a pill as an answer - sometimes it is hard work.

Lynda, remember it’s the meds that are affecting your emotions. The crying Lynda is down to them - the laughing Lynda is down to you. You will feel better when the different meds cut in to tide you over. Hang in there - you have a lot to bear but you can do it. Thinking of you, sending hugs, tell us how you go 🤗

Thanks for the encouraging words Celia! This (along w/the medical info) is why I'm so happy to be part of this forum! Just when you think you're down and out, kind folks come forth with kind words.

Starting Prozac tomorrow and seeing my Rheumy on Wed to get results from bone density and blood tests. I'll keep you all posted! 😉💕

Why would you put your body through withdrawal by quitting Cymbalta cold turkey? Why in the world did you not taper off. The schedule my doctor gave me for tapering only took a week! Surely you could have stood the medicine for a week.

I KNOW! My bad!! So confused with all the medication and different side effects of each one. I'm probably not making good decisions right nowsad.

So much medication has never been a problem for me, but now it is, and I'm desperately trying to find a way to manage it all....keep all the balls in the air, as they say!
