? for those with monofocal re: distorted peripheral vision (ZCB00 but any experiences welcome)

Quick backstory, 32 years old, had the Symfony lens put in my right eye in Feb 2016, had YAG Oct 2016, gave me ALOT of negative side effects (tons of floaters that light reflects off), couldn't risk putting another Symfony in my left eye so 3 weeks ago I had the Tecnic ZCB00 monofocal put in my left eye.
I have been experiencing a distortion of vision in my outside peripheral vision. I notice it when I move my head side to side. It almost looks as if the first 30% of my vision is wrinkled and I notice it because the light distorts a bit. If my head is still, I do not notice the distortion. I was doing some tests while in the passenger seat of my car, when I left my head still, the passing cars, buildings etc in my peripheral were all clear, but as soon as I started moving my head a bit, it distorts. I did expect this a bit on the farthest outside of my vision after reading about edge glare.
Now, one thing I have noticed is that when I lift my top and bottom eyelid up/down with my fingers and move my head, the distortion goes away a bit. I also did some reading that you can experience some droopy eyelid after cataract surgery but it goes away after a couple months.
Anyways I just wanted to see if anyone else experiences this with a monofocal, especially the ZCB00? I know it's still early after my cataract surgery but I wanted to gather some experiences in case I do go back to my surgeon.

All I can say is that I had a AcrySof IQ Aspheric Monofocal put in about 4 months ago, and I don't see anything like this. I have some residual astigmatism but still see 20/20 fairly easily. No distortion that I can see.

Thanks Ron for the reply. I had this distortion at my 3 day check-up with the doctor and he told me that it's normal and it will take time for the bag to contract to the IOL. He literally looked in my eye for 10 seconds and then told me to see my optometrist in 3.5 weeks. I was a bit shocked TBH, I paid good money for private care and to see one of the top ophthalmologists in Canada. He said in his 30 years, he has never seen it not go away. That's a also a bit shocking to say something like that, I've been on these forums for 5 years, I know the vast array of negative side effects that people experience.
Anyways I saw my optometrist 2 weeks after my surgery and he said he didnt see anything that would cause it... and here I am now, wondering what the heck is going on lol

I now find it difficult to remember exactly what my vision was like in the first few weeks after surgery. I know it was not perfect early, and did improve slowly over time. My optometrist did the first exam at 3 weeks, and recommended I wait until 8 weeks before getting an eyeglass prescription (for both eyes). He said that it can take some time for the eye to settle down after the trauma of surgery.

Yeah, that's my only hope at this point. Anyone in my personal life that i've talked to about this distorted peripheral vision have said they don't experience it.

Hi Kevin I experienced a bit of that (flickering) after my LE was operated on. The right eye was done first and I never had that experience at all and both eyes implanted with Symfony.
All I can say is this stopped after a few months. Perhaps it is reflection of light off the edge of the IOL and once it is fully healed it will disappear for you too.

I have the Symfony in my right eye. Actually having more issues with my monofocal then my Symfony. I can't catch a break.

Give it some weeks. For lack of a better description the lens will be shrink wrapped and that flickering will go away. It is likely the way a light source catches the edge of the IOL

Just wanted to update this post in case it comes up in anyone's search later.
I've figured out what is causing majority of my negative side effects. It was my eyelashes. They are really long and were growing downwards. I believe the condition is called trichiasis. I did notice it a bit when I was looking in the mirror but I really figured it out when my fiance took a picture of my eye from the side. I decided to just trim them really short and my distorted vision, light sensitivity etc has gone away. It really is a miracle. I walked into the grocery store last night after cutting them and the fluorescent lights didn't bother me.
I do still have a bit of light issues due to my eyelid drooping a bit but they are very minimal. I had a cataract in that eye for 5 years, I think due to that, my eyelids were not functioning normal and my eye muscles maybe have gotten worse, who knows, anyways, when I shut my eyes, this eye closes a bit more then the other which I think is causing light to go into my eye differently.

My left, non vitrectomzed eye had the eyelid drooping, I was told from a lifetime of wearing contact lenses. I've had that going on for the last 3 years and had that surgery this last October, in between the vitrectomy and my upcoming cataract surgery. Mine was down to my pupil so it interfered with my vision significantly. I also have extremely long eyelashes. Having the eyelid fixed stopped a ghost double vision I was having just in the left eye (not to be confused with the binocular double vision I've mentioned elsewhere here) and lowered my eye pressure when they were trying to measure it, showed it to be normal as the eyelid always being halfway down raised it. Honestly the recovery from the eyelid surgery was more bothersome than the vitrectomy. Out of curiosity, how did you cut your eyelashes (curious if you have a different/safer/better method that I do)?

Hey Scott,
Interesting, i've never heard that about contact lenses but just googled it.
I do have a bit of ghosting in my peripheral in this eye. If I hold my arm out in my perihperal, there is a ghosted light above it. I had wondered if my droopy eyelid was causing it. I'm gonna give it a bit of time before I go get it checked since I've read cataract surgery can cause it but it goes away after a while (not sure if thats true). I'll have to read up on your binocular double vision. Maybe I have that instead.
I had my fiance cut my eyelashes. We recently bought hair cutting scissors when she tried to my cut my hair back during beginning of COVID. They are really sharp so it made cutting the eyelashes very easy. I would not try it by myself though lol
