*graphic post re BM'S - apologies in advance*

I'm really really sorry for the nature of this post but I'm a little freaked out...

I was diagnosed with UC two weeks ago after being scoped in the midst of my second flare up. Its been a bit up and down since my diagnosis but after spendimg two years of being unwell i am, in the main, happy to know whats wrong with me and start to try and rebuild. Anyway I've been taking 40mg of prednisolone and 4g Pentasa daily since and awaiting being seen at IBD clinic at hospital. Symptoms have improved somewhat however tonight I had a very loose BM tonight which had in it what I can only describe as looking like- I'm really sorry - a long transparent fleshy 'worm' type thing. It wasn't a worm. I was scoped two weeks ago so surely they would have seen something then if it was and I have no other symptoms other than my standard UC ones. I have passed lots of mucus, blood etc in my BM'S for sometime now during my flare but nothing like this really long fleshy 'thing' tonight. Should I be worried? Should I call the docs tomorrow? As I say, freaked out! Any help appreciated.xx

    Dear Melanie,

So sorry that you have developoed this wretched condition; I hope that you will soon be in remission and able to continue with a relatively normal life.

Please don't worry about being graphic; the nature of the disease is such that this  is almost inevitable and I'm sure we on the forum fully sympathise and understand.

Silly question, but can you remember what you had been eating prior to this BM? If you'd been eating bean sprouts in a stir-fry, for example, possibly they would not have been properly digested and were passed in a very similar format to the way they were when eaten.

If you are seriously worried, I wouldn't hesitate to contact either your GP or gastroenterologist for reassurance.

All the very best to you.

Thank you so much for your replies! 😆 Bit of an icky subject but I'm so glad to have the help this forum offers! I haven't been eating much recently but interestingly I did manage to eat a hummus sandwich yesterday with alfalfa beansprouts so maybe it was indeed these that came back out undigested. It didn't really look like that but I might just go with it for now and keep an eye and see. This mornings usual BM didn't seem to have any trace of that weird stuff so hopefully that's a good thing!

I realise I have so much to learn about this whole UC thing and I am most likely only at the start of my journey. Thank goodness there's help out there!

    Stay well guys.xx

I used to pass bits of un-digested lettuce from sandwiches and salads at times so totally possible it was a "bean sprout"
