:headhurts:all i can say is ouch ouch!!! i have a tooth abscess and i have no idea as to where it is. all i know is that its on my lower left side. i cant pin point it as the pain is all along the lower jaw. i know that the pain is self inflicted due to being extremely scared of the man called the dentist.

it happened a few years ago, i had to go in for a filling. as i was sat in the chair, the dentist said i am going to numb the area now it wont hurt too much. ok i thought and braced myself for it. well all i can say is after she had stabbed me with that needle, (and i mean this, she actually threw that needle into my gum!!)i left crying my eyes out. the next day my gum was blue and purple and my mouth was 4 times its normal size. since then i have swore not to see a dentist again and if i did it would be too soon. now i have my 2nd tooth abscess in 3 months and i know i should see that thing called evil but i really am petrified. since having my kids my teeth have really suffered. my teeth crack and hurt and i have decay on the rear ones. i really want to get this sorted out as i am fed of the pain, and sometimes the pain i feel is worse than childbirth!! does anyone know if you can get the treatment done at hospital and get put to sleep while they do it? i have been to a dentist who tried to put me to sleep when i had a root canal done with wisdo tooth extraction and i feel every bit of pain. listen to your dentist and trust him when he tells you what to do. you will end up like me otherwise and to be honest, when my outh is hurting due to teeth problems, i would rather have red hot pokers in my eyes. it wouldnt hurt half as much.

I don't understand these dentist in here, i never had my teeth or gums numb for a filling, what the hell was that for?? Usually when u have cavities and they clean it and put filling you don't feel a thing (i have experience from kid i had 5-6 filligs ( done in my country bulgaria). Last year also i had to remove my two lower wisdom teeth because they were growing vertically and not upwards (that's horrible) So they had to put me the injection and yes they just stick it take it out stick it 4 times horrible but i was able to see what he is doing i wasn't asleep but i didn't feel a thing even though there were complications with one of them, the root was broken inside. Anyway i hate going to a dentist but sometimes there is no other choice, but to be honest double check where you are going, because what u said sounds NOT NORMAL.

Sorry to hear about the problem you are having, but I think you should find another dentist if you are unhappy with the one you originally went to. Remember that the problem won't go away by just leaving the abscess, dental abscesses don't go away permanently, not like a cold, when you take an anitbiotic. You have to go back and have the tooth looked at. The picture you paint of your current dentist would frighten anyone, and I am sure that she really was trying to help you and not be aggresive with you - can you imagine hurting people all day, their nerves must be shot. The lower dental needle needs to go in at a special angle and this is why it is moved in and out, it also needs to go in about an inch, so that it quite deep.

Your dentist is not a kind person. Look for another. When I need an injection to numb my gums my dentist presses the needle lightly and dribbles a bit of the numbing fluid on to my gumbs for slight numbing before the main injection. He will do this in as many places as is necessary. I am in the happy position of being able to trust my dentist not to inflict any unnecessary pain and, although I do not look forward to my appointments, I don't dread them. When I read about your experience, I realise how lucky I am.
