I've read so much on Sertraline & have never read anything about Cancer

If you read up, anything can give you Cancer now a days - kettle crisps, too much broccoli etc.

Please don't worry about these giving you Cancer as if it was true and a risk, they wouldn't be able to make them.

Ah right! Well I must have not bothered to take that bit in!

I still wouldn't worry about it, all medication has to cover themselves. On some paracetamol it says can cause death.

The chances will be so so small, but they'll have to put it in.

I've not heard of this and no one in their right mind could say such a thing...Unless they have a case history they know about !Thousands....Probably millions of people take Sertraline safely,OK...there are all the usual side effects. But Cancer?I can't say I am knowledgeable enough to say anything on the issue...But I would say don't give it too much power and try forgetting about it!I hope it has been helping your depression & anxiety. All the best,Sally

Sorry Memphis...You are correct:I read the replies to your original post. However,as someone said, the pharmaceutical companies have to say this to cover themselves....It is probably very rare...I wouldn't give it too much power.....

Ooooo you're right I just had a look at leaflet for Lustral ( branded sertraline) and side effects do include cancer at 1-10 in 10.000 people. I've been taking 50 mgs a day for last 18 mths.

Having said that I also take a Triptan for migraine have taken these for about 20 years and the side effects of these includes stroke and heart attack !!

I take other meds as well and they all include something drastic in the list of side effects, it is ironic that there for anxiety etc

Too much to worry about in this life you just have to weigh up the odds, but remember they are taken by thousands of people every day. I say best not to read beyond the 'don't take if you have certain other conditions'

    All the best

    Hi  Memphis,

Even though you have heard this, it may say it on the leaflet which comes with the meds. The reason they have to put this in there is to cover their own backs - anything has side effects ,even foods! Dont worry and I hope that you get better very soon.
