:( in pain, do I risk bleeding?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I start my new job tomorrow and unfortnatley started having painful cramps today which is only going to get worse. I'm on 100mg sertraline daily and I have iboprufen (only pain killer I have access to atm). I heard that taking this with sertraline can cause bleeding but I'm literally in so much pain. Do I take the painkillers?

Hi what you in pain with? I wouldn't take ibuprofen while on setraline as it interacts with each other

Using sertraline together with ibuprofen may increase the risk of bleeding. The interaction may be more likely if you are elderly or have kidney or liver disease. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may already be aware of the risks, but has determined that this is the best course of treatment for you and has taken appropriate precautions and is monitoring you closely for any potential complications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience any unusual bleeding or bruising, or have other signs and symptoms of bleeding such as dizziness; lightheadedness; red or black, tarry stools; coughing up or vomiting fresh or dried blood that looks like coffee grounds; severe headache; and weakness. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Yeah Ibuprofen is contraindicated with Sertraline. Can cause bruising/easy bleeding so you can bleed more during your period. You can take Tylenol or Naproxen or call your Dr an ask or your pharmacists. Im in U.S. hope you feel better soon!

    Oh Moonbean,

There is no way for me to help you with this. However, I have taken 800 mg ibuprofen twice a day for two years and I am on 100 mg of Sertraline. I have never had a problem and did not even know of this possibility.

I am sorry you are in such pain right before you start a new job. I hope it all works out.
