"Let Down Effect" and Anxiety

Good morning everyone,
Thanks for taking the time to read this, so my anxiety has come on like a tsunami effectively since I finished a particularly stressful year as a VP of a high school here in Canada. I've been reading about the "let down effect" and effectively what it states is that when you are in a state of stress, the hormones keep things at bay but WHEN you start to relax, all the anxiety related symptoms along with physical ailments that have been masked come to the forefront. I've been treated with anxiety/depression with meds in the past but they were not overly helpful. I have seen my GP, all tests rule out anything more concerning (not that anxiety is a piece of cake) but I wake up hoping to feel better, realize that I don't and then get pretty bummed out.
Trying to exercise daily, working in some mindfulness, I guess I'm after a success story here! Does anyone have experience with where I'm at with a happy ending?
Thanks again,
Matt

Matt I can relate to what you are saying for sure. I’ve had anxiety since the age of five and I’m now in my 60s. So I can definitely say I’m a veteran of this horrible condition. i’ve had every sensation you can think of and all the fears that go along with it., All the ruminating all the negative thoughts, etc , Thinking I had MS which I did not.
Many people have a genetic predisposition to anxiety including me. I know that this will be with me for the rest of my life but I know that it’s important to know how to manage it so it doesn’t get out of hand. I am sure for some people they may be able to get rid of it completely. It could be just that they had a temporary issue in life creating stress and anxiety and when that was over they felt a lot better. other people they have it on and off for many years.
i understand it way better now than I ever did so I don’t allow it to completely take me over anymore like I used to. I stay active, exercise, try to eat very healthy, stay hydrated, I find that when I help other people it takes the focus off of myself and what I am going through.
I speak with a counselor about once a month just to touch base ans to vent anything that I need to and she gets me back on course.
so I don’t have super happy ending about it but I can tell you that I am much happier now with being able to control it better. I don’t let it take over my life anymore. I Nippet in the bud. One thing I learned that was really important is that how we think is a major factor in allowing anxiety and fear to take us over or not. I do wish you the best!
