? PI IBS

I had campylobacter in March for which I was in hospital for 6 days. Having fully recovered I then started with right iliac fossa pain 6 days after discharge. This pain has become worse. I now have constant pain which is made worse after eating, and movement. I struggle to walk around a supermarket without having to take a break as the pain becomes more intense. Driving causes more pain due to the upright sitting position. The pain is not relieved by opening my bowels. At times I feel really nauseous. My bowel movements are completely normal, and I'm regular once a day.

I had a colonoscopy five weeks after the campylobacter infection. It showed that the ileocal valve and ascending colon was oedematus, inflammed and ulcerated. The biopsies just showed inflammation. Last week I saw a gastroenterologist and he believes I have post infectious IBS. However, I'm not convinced due to the fact I have no bowel movement issues, I had ulceration on my colonoscopy and I've had positive Faecal occult blood tests. Plus I had pain in the same area prior to this, which I put down to "ladies pain" thinking I was premenopausal. I was having period pains throughout the whole month. I mentioned it to gastro and he wasnt convinced. Last week I had bloods taken and a calprotectin test done. I'm still awaiting the results. Pardon the pun, but I have a gut feeling its not IBS, plus I'm an nurse so I have some medical knowledge.

The pain is so bad that I haven't been able to get back to work. It wakes me at night and some days I struggle to do the smallest of tasks. Ive not been able to travel to see my parents in Spain (unable to get travel

insurance for undiagnosed abdo problem). My dad has stage 4 colon cancer, so his time may be limited and I am desperate to see him and my mum. Its really getting me down, 4 months with the pain getting worse and not getting any definitive answers or treatment/symptom control.

Anyone else been diagnosed with PI IBS without bowel movement issues and similar symptoms as myself?

If so what helped? I want my life back!

Thanks x

For months I had terrible pain in the area of the ileocecal valve, doctors kept telling me to take this med, that med, diet, etc. Nothing worked.

At the time I was working as a secretary with a great osteopath, one day I mentioned it to him, He did some kind of (quite painful) manipulation on the ileocecal valve and the following day I had no pain and have never had any again since.

It might not be the same as mine, but if you have a good osteopath near you it might be worth a try. If you haven't got one near you or you can't afford it, an alternative would be to check on you tube for ileocecal valve massage and you can follow that. I recommended this to someone on here once and it worked for her, she got back to me to let me know and thank me.

    Best of luck!
