[Rant] I've had chronic UTI's since I was a baby and they progressively get worse!

As the title says, I've had UTI's for as long as I can remember, I have UTI's at least once a month and I'm getting so frustrated! Every doctor so far except for my main doctor has done the same thing: Urine Sample, Antibiotics, and send me home! Also I feel like I need to point this out, I'm aware that most UTI's are caused either by lack of water or having sex, but see the thing is, I do neither of those! I drink water constantly and I refuse to have sex until after marriage.
I was ok with this at first but my UTI's just keep getting worse and they have to keep amping up the dosage and strength of the medicine. Doesn't that mean there will be a point where medicine won't be able to fight it off?
I don't understand why they won't go away, my main doctor has tried everything with me, from telling me to use home remedies to extensive screenings and I'm just so done with it all!!
My UTI's are so bad to the point where I wake up at 1 am just to cry because of the pain. It doesn't leave and just gives me horrible pain and aches and the worst burning sensations ever.
I want to be able to live without constantly having to run to the bathroom, endure the pain of burning urine and painful cramps, it's depressing thinking about it.
My doctor thinks that because most of her treatments aren't working means that something much more serious is going on. She thinks that I might either have a part of my bladder that is keeping some urine in me or that the tubes that connect my kidneys to my bladder might have damage.
I'm just so tired with this.
Sorry this is just a very depressing rant.
Has anyone else experienced UTI's like this and have you found solutions?
Answers would be a godsend.

This must be so debilitating and horrible for you, while endless antibiotics will do you no good at all. Every time you take them they assault your body and destroy your good bacteria as well as the bad.
Does "extensive screenings" include kidney X-ray, ultrasound and cystoscopy? If not, then you need all of these to rule out internal problems.
Do they always grow a culture from your urine specimen, or just do the dip-stick test? Find out if you don't know as the dip-stick doesn't show some of the more major super-bugs. If it's E.Coli this can set up colonies in your bladder which are protected by 'biofilms'. Antibiotics generally can't touch it when this happens.
If you've had this since you were a baby either something serious needs investigating or there is something within your environment which keeps re-infecting you. You might need to discuss this with a specialist.
There are pages on this forum with many discussions like this - hunt about in this section for more ideas while you wait for other replies. Starting a new discussion depends on who else sees it while older discussions will have many replies.
There are also specialist groups out there. Look for cystitis and overactive bladder foundation.
Good luck!

Hi Miriam,
You are so right about antibiotics,
and I'm hoping to rid myself of them after too many years to count but especially the past 3 years.
Do you know any way to destroy the biofilm? And why don't doctors talk about biofilm in the bladder. Seems they only like prescribing.
Dmannose is helping and I bought uristatin which contains uva Ursi and echinacea and a few other herbs. Have you heard of this? Didn't try it yet but will when dmannose is low!
Thank you.

Hi there, You rant as much as you like, UTI's aren't funny and unless you have suffered with them you don't understand.
Goodness me you have been suffering a very long time, I haven't had UTI's for as long as you but have had recurrent bouts over the past 2 years (free of symptoms at the moment), I take quite a few different supplements that you may or may not have tried Cranberry tablets/D-Mannose/Vit C tablets and probitotics all of which I think help, also I expect you know that it isn't only sex and not drinking enough water that can contribute to the problem, also washing with perfumed soap/bubble bath shower gel are not good, shower rather than bath, wipe front to back, no feminine hygiene sprays and also perfumed soap powder all can contribute, not to mention eating too much citrus fruits or drinking coffee/tea (caffeine generally) carbonated soft drinks etc etc the list seems endless, I am still learning all. Yes your bladder does retain some urine but this is natural however in we ladies who get UTI's this urine gets infected instead of being flush through clean each time we pee, a bit like the toilet when you flush it I suppose, water stays in the bowl but it gets cleaned each time you flush.

Yes there is always a little left and I try to empty but it now requires a push.
Doctors never told me about diet limitations only cranberry juice but that doesn't cure.
Dmannose is helping me now and my best friend along with probiotics. But I live in fear of getting one every day now.
I have a friend who never got a uti and she says she'd never be able to drink the water volume or bathroom visits I do every day.
I am trying to beat this curse and it's just a lot of proactive work!
And I do believe that my bladder is sore with inflammation.
Thanks for listening and any other advice will be valuable.

I am 71 yrs ago when system more ethical it centred round research and after suffering like you 3 weekly Igot it in 1969 fatty liver, scarred kidneys , spina bifida & one ureter too many with incontinence from a neurogenic bladder . I regularly saw a Prof in London for 40 yrs ,when system hadn't cut me off. as not recognising the disability which underlies everything as I can't catheterise because of lipo-lymphoedema primary cellulitis meaning need sedation for everything.as feel pain intensely .To make matters worse my apps for targeted antibiotics were not transferred even though specialists said should go to RNOH because spinal spasticity spasms .At least he kept my scarred kidneys from getting worse .I have agraphsaying when spasticity was at its worse sepsis was high . Over 20 a&Es refused to test consequently had boils & Cysts to & a heart attack .tHE reason i am here now is i realise without the antibiotics I wouldn't be .You have to weigh it up .I come from a family of pharmacists & teachers who also believed in the alternative as suspect the Testing equipment doesn't equate with operational as my cutis often didn't show up.Also one develops resistance if not targeted correctly Unfortunately now it is a METo situation where the men get assistance while the ladies are left to fester.Even now..Many surgeries have told me no Research, no Referrals no open access. This would not have happened if the Hippocratic oath was taken.
