‘Tingling’ hands and lower legs
Posted , 12 users are following.
It seems that the moment you think you're doing not too badly, something else crops up -- i've been experiencing what I can only describe as a numb, tingling sensation in my hands and lower legs the past couple of days, which is really bothersome. I'm wondering if this is a new side effect of taking pred, or a result of lowering my dose -- otherwise I'm more or less pain free. Anyone else have experience of this, I'd be grateful to know.....

Hi patsy, i can only speak from my experiance, and yes i do have tingling, numbness and a lot of cramps.
I have been to the doctors and was told from what she knew about pmr, its a side effect of both pmr and steroids.
so as i know from this forum, and all the ladies who use it, we are not the only ones to suffer from this.
some one with more knowledge than myself regarding this will be along to help you with more information
regards margaret

HI Patsy,
I also experienced tingling in my lower legs and scalp whilst taking pred but found this stopped after reducing the dose. In my experience it helped me identify when i was ready to reduce my dose x I have been off pred for 2 years now and have not experienced the tingling sensation since x

Handbrake, Could you please explain what you mean about how it helped you identity when to reduce your dose. I have tingling and numbing in my toes, since this all started, but seems to be getting worse as I am reducing.

Hi Patsy,
We are all different and your Dr is best person to advise on best course of action for you but for me tingling started at 12.5 mg reduced to 10 mg and tingling stopped so stayed at that dose for a month tingling started again so dropped again once i got down to 7.5mg reduced .5mg at a time to ensure my adrenal glands had kick in.

patricia43291 I have as stated before, had numb toes on both feet for nearly 3yrs. it started 4months after I started taking Pred. and has seemed to get worse on reducing. I am now on 5mgs a day along with 20mgs of Leflunomide. I have just spent over a week in Hospital with Flu and Pneumonia, the Leflu. was stopped straight away and I have to have tests to see if it is o.k. to go back on it. All the while the numb feet saga continues, I have just had a test for peripheral neuropathy and am not diabetic so I'm stumped!

Catherine, wow, I've read that leflunomide can cause peripheral neuropathy. What is the test for it?
I'm sorry to hear you ended up in the hospital with a bad case of the flu. Hope you are feeling better now.

I have only been taking the Leflunomide for approx 1yr. so that hasn't caused the numbness which I have had fornearly 3yrs. Leflu. is a good drug for me as I have been able to reduce the Pred. wh en I couldn't before. I was tested to see if I was Diabetic, as I understand per.neuropathy is common to that disease.
