For starters I have hsv1 I gotten cold sore since I was a child I went to quest diagnostics and had a hsv2 test done my results were 1.18 igg this test was done two months after my sexual encounter. I was told it may be a false positive. Let's say I do another test the same one and it's the same results at 16 weeks should I consider my self positive for hsv2.

I have seen one person take 6 months to finally come up positive, which positive is 1.10. Make sure you are doing type specific IgG and not combined. Any thing 3.5 and below can be questionable w no symptoms. I recommend the western blot test, to eliminate this issue. I have seen someone come back negative for yrs, tested positive on a culture, yet yrs later blood test is negative.. Only once have I seen this.. Very rare and we recommend the western blot test. That will rule out any guessing game for you.

The test was hsv 2 type specific but some one said my hsv1 will also show up on a hsv 2 test. So I should not waste my time with another test and just do a western blot? And will the western blot test show a difference between hsv1 and hsv2

That is true if you had a combined test, which is why I asked if you had a type specific Elissa test done. If you do a combined type specific, then your HSV 1 can cross react and make for a false positive for HSV 2.

The western blot is the golden standard and doesn't have false positives.
