1.5 Years after operation - still have some symptoms

Hi

I had two large hemorrhoids removed over 1.5 years ago. The recovery was incredibly long and difficult, and I had hemorrhoid like symptoms post the operation like horrendous burning that was almost as bad as before the operation for weeks and months on end.

I've had numerous post-op check ups/investigations including an MRI which had all shown a negative result (i.e. no recurrence of hems, no fissure or fistulas etc.) I thought I was finally over this but the burning sensation is back. I really can't cope with this - it is ruining my life. I have a check up in the near future but I know they'll say everything looks fine.

I'm at a complete loss and am utterly depressed.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Thanks

So i can only speak on having banding done. 2 grade 2 internal. After banding it took almost 1.5 months for everything to get back to what I'd say was 90%. Meaning, i still had a slightly uncomfortable feeling after going to the bathroom. Almost like a swollen feeling, but certainly not like before. I always suspected that i had another hem, after the first banding, but never went back in,as i wasn't nearly in discomfort as prior. Basically, im excepting this is status after having the inside of your butt pinched and essentially tied off🤣. Some days are better than others, some are like pre hem's. Some aren't. Factoring ive upped my fiber, water and cut out allot of junk and grease, once you've had them, unfortunately you can have a reoccurrence.

I have been through a similar experience. Various ops over several years. Each seems to work for a while and then problems return. On the last two occasions I have been checked over I was told there was nothing showing, but I know I was in definite pain. It is very unsettling I know - I feel for you. Perhaps it is skin tags causing the pain? I wonder if that was my problem. Have you tried banding? That was the most successful thing for me, but sadly in my experience no procedure offers permanent lifetime freedom from the problem if you are prone to fissures and haemorrhoids. I would be interested to hear if anyone has any solutions/suggestions. I follow a high fibre diet, but it only takes one episode of constipation to cause an immediate return of my problems.

I had hems removed 1.5 years ago (June 2018). While it is fair to say that I am totally healed, my bottom is not the same. Overall it took about 6 months for full recovery. I have no more pain or discomfort. Yet, I am not the same. I still use creams occasionally. And I regularly need to use compresses of baby wipes when I exercise.

So, I am not sure if this helps any except to say you are not alone.

Thank you everyone for your replies. It really is appreciated.

I'm trying to get a follow up appointment with my consultant. So we'll see what he says. But I fear he'll just say "everything looks fine" and "it'll take time to heal", and then I'll just be left in the same position I was before. How do you fix something where there is no obvious problem to be seen?

    Anyway, thank you again everyone.

Rich , also bear mind...the backside is said to be the most painful area to have anything done. ie nerve endings. so be it a hemorrhoidectomy, banding, staple its going to be a long rough road. Also remember each time you go #2 the waste pass's by the healing area, causing reoccurrence. it happens easier than you think. With my bandings, it was supposed to be good in 2 weeks...🤣 that was june...i still have off days

Hi, i had the surgery in Feb 2018 and for me it was also a slow and painful recovery. Also, due to some surgical error, I had pain when BM until over a year. Since the surgery my guts changed and constipation is regular even if I eat fiber, drink water and exercise as before.

No new hem so far but as the rectum got narrower, I cannot empty my bowels without enema. I highly suggest this to all even though it takes longer but helps a lot. I use a squeeze bottle I bought in a pharmacy and clean it after use.

And yes, leaking occurs so life is a bit of a hell for me as I'm an active 39 yro female. Doing pelvic floor exercises, too but little improvement.
