1 week on 50mg sertraline

So I started 50mg sertraline a week ago. I take it at night because it makes me real sleepy. Last night I woke up with a bad migraine, is this a normal side effect? Or has anyone had shoulder tenseness? So far these seem to be the only side effects.

    Hi Jeanette89

Yeah, i got bad headaches for the first couple of days, and then they settled down. You are lucky, i had horrid anxiety and panic attacks. But it has all settled down now and im actually feeling awesome today ! been on 50mg for a couple of weeks. So fingers crossed. Remember to keep positive, surround yourself with positive ppl and things and it really does rub off ! CBT made a huge difference to me, understanding anxiety I think is the key to it all, knowing that your not going to die and its just a feeling, and thats all it should be ! Easy for me to say, but at the time its really hard work. I watched a number of really got youtube videos by a guy called Harry Barry and listened to peoples stories of Anxiety and how they over came it !

It does get better, remember that, when all things seem like rubbish remember it gets better ! The more you fight panic and anxiety the more it grows, just a laugh at it and move on.

    Hi Jeanette89,

You are lucky you are only experiencing a portion of what most people experience when they start on sertraline, including me. I am now on my 8 months on 50mg Sertraline and I have never felt better, thanks to be God. I had a nightmare first two weeks when I commenced sertraline. Sleeping 2-3 hours a day and unable to eat anything and my anxiety and panic attack got worse. But all those side affects wore off after 2 weeks and I have been sleeping 7-8 hours a day since then and even gained 5kgs (which I lost 7 kgs in the first two weeks). Never give up. Any kind of side effect should wear off after 2-3 weeks (I know that sounds like a long period but its worth it). If it doesn't help, you should speak to your doctor and maybe go on another antidepressant.

    I hope this helps.

and please don't dose up, the more dose you use the harder it is to come off the drug once you decide its enough.

Totally agree Robin, I had no apitite at all, no sleep g, high anxiety, panic attacks, for the first 2wks. Then there was a point yesterday where it all seemed to just fade away, I ate dinner, had a laugh, and relaxed. I still have sore muscles from all the tension, but it will go also.

Stay focused on getting better and you will !!

That is not true.  A lot of people including myself may need to higher their doseage because the one they are currently on is not working for them. The first time I was on Zoloft 50

Worked for me . Now years later I am back on and had to up my dose from50 to 75 to now 100. 100 is working for me just fine.  And to be completely honest most people who go off of Zoloft or any anti depressants will eventually have to get back on again. That is why I will not be getting off this time around.

      Hi Jenna,

I know where you are coming from. I am just advising that the more dose you are on the harder it is to come off it. As for Jennete case, as since she only started on a low dose I hope she can manage with the low dosage so that she may not need to up her dose. Nothing else. I understand some people need higher dose to control their anxiety/panic attacks.

Hi Jeanette, just read your posting and said to myself (hey) I have the shoulder tenderness too along with neck. The more I read these posts the more I discover about the symptoms. I am on 50 been on it for three weeks or so. My main big problem is anxiety. I had an attack just two days ago. Came out of no where. But I did have a few good days before that so I just remind myself that I want to feel that good again. So what I'm trying to say is just hang in there, but if it gets to hard talk to your doctor. So here's to all of us that we can overcome.
