1 week on Lexapro 10mg

Good Evening,

Looking for support, today is one week on Lexapro and my anxiety is very very high, I did take 1/4 of a benadryl today at work as felt like I was going to jump out of my skin, my Dr did give me benzo, but I am not comfortable taking it and worry how I will feel and the chance of it be habitual.

I was giving Benadryl by my doctor when I was on Paxil last yr and it did calm me down some, so that's why I did take it today.

I'm tired, no appetite, headache, and high high anxiety, is this normal the heightened anxiety? When does the med help with Anxiety? Just don't understand if Lexapro is to get rid of Anxiety why does it cause you to have anxiety when taking it? Thank you for your support.

lori it is normal. all ssris lexapro paxil zoloft etc treat anxiety and they all have a side effect of causing more anxiety than you already have when you start taking it. you body is trying to adjust to it. and this anxiety is going to amplify everything making you worry and doubt everything. learn all you can about this anxiety condition , the meds and other treatments. having all this knowledge helps! ss for the klonopin benzo i took when i was bad when i got better i quit taking it i do take a little to sleep sometimes. but yes i worried alot about getting hooked on it. that wasnt the case. everyone is different!

    Hang in there lori,

sadly before these meds can regulate and your body can adjust youll feel ALOT of side effects like you mentioned.

It gets worse before it gets better. But once your body adjusts you will feel much better.

The side effects van last days weeks or even months. I know this sounds horrible and scary but thats how these meds work.

You may not have the side effects long or you may there is no way to tell.

But what i would say is don't research the internet.

I did that in the beginning and it was the worse thing i could have done. The horror stories of side effects made me change meds three times and so I have been stuck in this "side effect" loop for 17 weeks.

Lexapro is a great SSRI if you stick with it.

If it becomes to much you can ask your dr for a benzo to help with the added anxiety.

I tried the benydryl and the other non benzo type anxiety meds and they never worked for me so my dr finally gave me ativan and its worked to take away the extra anxiety.

Hang in there,i know how rough and scary it is, I have been there,I am still fighting through it but feel like I am finally heading towards the end of the worsened side effects.

I am here if you need to talk!!
