1 week post op - posterior repair - worried....

Hi all, glad I found this forum - hope you're all well (or as well as possible 😁wink. Advice please as I'm starting to panic!!! My surgery went well (slight hiccup with extremely low blood pressure for 24 hours), but left hospital after 2 nights on Friday). I have 4 children between 6&13  (all very capable but choose not to be helpful - I've explained the no lifting/resting/etc, but they just don't seem to get it as they can't 'see' the issue). Anyway, hubby has had to work on and off this past week, so despite his amazing help, I think I've probably done too much (cooking dinners, getting them ready for school etc). So today after my shower I 'had a look' (as I've been constantly bleeding for the whole week, bright red blood and a couple of small clotty bits today). The pain has be bearable and not required painkillers and I've been taking lactulose so no straining (exactly the opposite 😬 In fact). I was told to do simple exercises and start pelvic floor exercises from day 1, which I've been doing and walked around the block today. So, having had a look I called for my hubby to have a look too (didn't want to, but had to get reassurance all was ok) and we both think there is a hole which is bleeding (on the edge of the back wall) - and hubby said a fishy smell (just had a shower 😫wink. So I've freaked out, burst into tears and phoned the ward, explained this to the nurse, plus that a bit of stitch had come away yesterday when I wiped, and she just said.... there can't be a hole, it's early days, bleeding can continue for 2 weeks but to contact them if heavier (it's just constant ATM, no lighter times or heavier times), the smell is 'normal' (really???!!!) as it's a wound with fresh blood, a pad and air, and that I really just need to take it very easy for a few weeks, and as long as I don't have a temperature or pussy discharge (I don't- just bleeding)  all will be fine!!! I told her I was panicking and started to cry and she just said to take deep breaths and to rest. Hmmmm, I'm not convinced all is well!!! Going to try and get a doctors appt tomorrow at my surgery just to be checked, to be on the safe side.

Sorry for the very long post, but can anyone else relate? Am I just expecting too much too soon? Could I have a hole where a stitch has come away that's bleeding (anyone had that happen)? Am I right to get checked out (would rather not 😬wink. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid. Oh, the things we women go through! I just want to be back to normal asap!!! Thanks for reading. Much love to all of you who are going/gone through this 😘. Claire xxx

Thank you for replying. I'm now just laying in bed, too scared to get up for fear of bleeding to death (I have a fear of anything health related/dying). It's not like you can just ask a mate to pop in and have a look lol (didn't even want hubby having a butchers up there, but just freaked out!). Gonna be a long night. Very scared that it's opened up and I'll have to go back in to hospital to be restitched.  Has that happened to anyone that you know of? Sorry, just very worried - thought everything was going so well - wish I'd not looked!! Xxx

Oh dear Claire-I'm so sorry you feel so worried & anxious. I'm 5 weeks post op for a triple repair & I have to say the first 4 weeks weren't much fun, but believe me it does get better. I bled for about 2 & a half weeks, then I've had a discharge ever since, so still need to wear pant liners. Please accept ALL the help you can get, rest as much as possible ( I went to bed every afternoon for 2 weeks), don't lift ANYTHING - I still won't lift the kettle or 4 pints of milk & don't strain on the loo. Like you I did go for short walks daily but nothing too strenuous.I'd get advice from your doctor to put your mind at rest.  Keep reading this forum, I've found it invaluable, I felt very alone & bewildered when I came home after 2 days in hospital as they gave me next to no advice, but the lovely ladies on here are so helpful & understanding & have been a huge comfort to me. Good luck. Sending you hugs. Carol xx

PS.....it did smell very strange for a few weeks down there, so I imagine that's normal as it's ok now.

Dear Claire... I am 18 weeks post op 3 surgeries . You are doing far too much. You will have to get friends or family to help. My boys didn't help me either and I'm single. It's no lifting of washing, pans full of pasta etc for weeks and weeks.

Do not be afraid to go back to the doctor with your fears. I did several times .

    Take care x

    Hi Claire

I went back to my GP today as I had my op , anterior and prosterior repair , last Friday . I had a stitch when I wiped and I was worried as I thought it would be too early for a dissolved stitch.

She checked my stitches and said sometimes you get some random bits come away but everything was in tact and not to worry but gave me anti biotics as mine seems slightly infected.

I would go and get it checked by your GP just so your not worried I'm sure it will be fine but it will put your mind at rest. The ladies on here are amazing and like some have mentioned they have been lifesavers for me as it's invaluable to speak to people going through the same thing . Don't worry xx

Thank you all for your replies - this forum is great 😁. Went to docs this morning. After a speculum examination - ouch 😫, she too thinks things could be 'not quite right', so I'm now sat at a&e (on my own as hubby/friends are at work) waiting to see a gynae doctor (with a bag far too heavy but with necessary items to see me through - never know how long you're going to be!). So, hoping we are just erring on the side of caution but glad I went to the docs. Wish me luck  - feeling sick inside at the thought of possible restitching needed!!! Xxx

      Hi Claire

How did you get on at A&E? Do hope things are ok & you're felling better. Best wishes Carol xx

Hiya, thanks for asking  - after 8 hours in a&e 😫 I was seen by gynae doc who said I have an infection and my internal stitches have come loose (he snipped a couple that had unravelled, cleaned me out up there with iodine solution (that was an experience I do not wish to be repeated - 2 speculum exams in one day - ouch), gave me 2 lots of antibiotics and asked me to go back this morning for another check up. Today he checked me, put a load of oestrogen cream up and sent me home with cream to administer twice daily with a follow up on Tuesday. If on Tuesday the wound is not healing as well as it should due to the loose stitches, then I'll be admitted again to be restitched!!! So, moral of the story is.... 'don't listen to a nurse who thinks she can diagnose you over the phone' - had I listened to her, I'd just be sitting around taking it easy and letting the infection take hold. And....' you know your own body and if you think something is not right, go and get it checked out'.

Wishing I'd not had the op done now - in pain, tearful, fed up, feeling very sick due to antibiotics and now unable to do a thing for fear of loosening the stitches more - definitely don't want another op 😥.  Xxx

Oh Claire-you poor, poor thing - I'm SO sorry you're going through such a bad time, that really is bad luck. Let's hope the antibiotics soon work to make you feel better & really hope things improve by Tuesday, the last thing you need is further surgery! I feel guilty now about feeling tired & tearful - I'll think of you in future!!

Take care,  keep resting. Sending you hugs - Carol xx

Oh heck sounds like you have been thru the "wars" best thing is that you are now on the radar with the hospital crew. You are still early days guess what you have had a major operation, I cant believe you have had the energy to be running around so soon after the family. You honestly need to park up and do absolutely nothing for a couple of weeks. Sounds dreadful and impossible but its a must if you want to heal as best as you can. Claire I'm one year on from having my op I experienced a heart attack the same day which meant I was in hospital longer than I should have been but now Im fine. It took me 8 weeks to get back to work and then it was on light duties.Even now if I overdo things ie lift over 5kgs I ache at night across my bottom rather like been perched on a piece of wire. This operation takes a long time to recover from but its totally worth it and we ladies are very lucky that we can be repaired so we can function properly again. Take care and get well soon xxx

I'm 10 days post-op and not doing anything and still feel terrified of everything! Have just written a first post (i think to this group?). Not sure how anything will ever feel the same again. I'm eagerly following all posts here. 😣

You sound like me. I am so stressed out. My husband asked me why I haven’t came to look at the yard work he has done today and I told him it’s because I am afraid my vagina is falling out. 🙀 He was like “okay?” Lol. I have been burning this website up looking for answers but I haven’t gotten any yet. I had the minimally invasive posterior vaginal wall repair (rectocele repair) done along with a bladder sling on March 19th so I am 15 days post op. I am like you ...I’ve been running around on my feet most of the day and I’ve been told everything is fine when my surgeon hasn’t even seen my post op self yet! It’s frustrating to think you’re privates are falling out and nobody cares! I might not be a positive person but I am right there with you needing answers.
