1 week post ORIF with displacement

Posted , 5 users are following.

I am 1 week post op from a broken fibula with displacement of tibia. The surgery was fine and I'm not having any issues from the plate and screws. However the tibia side that was displaced with torn tendons has been burning from day 1. I've had the splint replaced so now there is only support up the back and not on the sides of the ankle. Has anyone had issues with the displaced side??? Just trying to figure out if this is normal.

Not a response to this, but can't find any way to start an ankle-related new post. If anyone picks this up, have you looked at stem cell treatment for ankles with cartilage problems? The Regenerative Cinic in London is offering this but it costs. Early days research-wise, but might be available on the NHS in 5-6 years. Would someone in admin post this as a new post, please?

5 weeks post op, same as you. My foot felt like it was sun burnt and someone kept slapping it. It’s nerve damage. Mine is slowly gaining feeling and its still a little sensitive at times, but it is going away. I’m afraid patience, elevation, pain meds and icing is your only friend at this point. Good Luck

Broken ankle here.. got 3 screws and a plate. I went thru the exact thing as you are right now.. its your nerves, bones and muscle growing back. I had experienced that burning and bad pain for almost up to 2 weeks, but everyone has different pain tolerance. Medication and keeping it elevated helped me out. Also ice if possible. I am now almost 2 months from surgery and barely feel any pain. I wish you best of luck and promise it will go away and get better!

I also have lots of burning.  The sensation is common, I’m learning from my reading.  I also have some cramping and involuntary muscle movement.  Lots of popping and cracking too.   I’m week 6 post op.  The above symptoms had gotten better but I am  now weight bearing and this has caused the burning to increase as well as the other symptoms which had gotten better.  I also get throbbing sharp pain after walking.

I have heard the soft tissue takes longer to heal then the bones.  I am trying to take it easy but it is hard to lie down for 6 Weeks then be given permission to walk again and not over do it.  Best of luck, but the burn will be staying for a while, it will get better but comes back when you start walking.
