Sometimes it's trial and error to get the right size or the right type of pessary, but stick with it it can really help if you get the right size, type.

      Hi Valerie,

Just wanted to say that I got one that I could fit myself so I could take it out at night and reinsert during the day.

Was it easy to fix, because I think that I would prefer that sort of pessary, even put it in just for playing  golf, my niece had a pessary put in and it was very good., for her.

They give me one that once inserted stayed in for 6 months, I hated it and it kept falling out, I stayed some distance from the clinic and I don't drive so wasn't east to get there and had difficulty contacting consultants secretary . I also felt that I couldn't evacuate my bowel properly when the ring was in and didn't feel comfortable during intercourse.

The result was that they agreed to give me the ons that I could insert myself. Only used it for about 6 months as by then it wasn't staying in either and by then had my date for surgery.

My sister has a mild prolapse and was fitted with a pessary about a year ago it is a permanent one that stays in all the time and gets changed every 6 months. She has not had any problems with it and is very happy with it. So maybe how well it works depends on how mild/ severe a prolapse is! My prolapse was pretty bad by the time I presented at consultant.

Hope you find a solution that works for you.

Not many have good success with pessary. Even one the medicals say is the right size, can still be horribly uncomfortable. They are just a gap stop while getting head around surgical pelvic floor fix. What has prolapsed?
