1 year post op THR Severe leg cramp so

1 year post op THR and doing well, so thankful for the surgery! I've both returned to work and Jazzercise which I love and missed so much. I noticed some quad tightening and discomfort recently in class and am experiencing severe leg cramps in quad muscle and behind knee during the night. I'd appreciate if anyone has any insight on this please!

    Hi Sue

Make sure your are drinking the reccomended amount of water daily ...especially if you are exercising. Magnesium is a good general supplement to take for cramping. Also use no more then a teaspoon of salt a day. All the best.

hey i recently was having a similar problem around the one yesr mark. i had a Rhumatology appointment and my check up so hips were scanned and clear so i spoke to Rhumatology who basically told me that my body was forming muscle correctly in some areas like my calfs were extremely solid from doing weights and cardio but that due to the realignment of all the bones in one leg the pain was likely coming from my body not being anatomically "correct" aka im building correct muscle on wonky skeleton which was causing pain and all sorts of issues. he advised to cut everything out my body physically hates doing try reintroducing things until to fins out whats causing the issue. so im on week three of very basic physical exercise and i have zero pain.

he basically said that the stabbing pains in my hip knee groin hard cramping muscles etc were soft tissue related due to changes in posture and muscle use rather than bone ajd that id find a way to make it work

hope that makes sense. but yours could be completely different so id still suggest you call them or speak to a physio. perhaps a massage to loosen any tight muscles. my calf is so tight and cramped still after this time thst it needs pressure release a lot.

don't give up on wanting to dance you might just need to do other stuff to maintain the soft tissue more loosely. i do yoga which helps and i keep my magnesium topped up through diet which helps with the cramps (iv always had cramp issues) and zinc and magnesium usually keep me from having any cramps

good luck im glad your enjoying life 😃

thank you for your input! some of it was over my head but I believe I got the gist that it's definitely related to changes from the surgery & most probably my routine. The mist recent episode followed 3 consecutive days at Jazz where the legs were worked more than the norm. I'm not taking magnesium but think I will look into it and will definitely start doing upper thigh stretches following Jazz. & will most definitely give my body at least a day break between classes! THANK YOU AGAIN!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and your family!

so when lactic acid builds up you also get cramps. an hour or so after or when your resting try not to just do nothing take a walk flex your muscles give them a rub if tight. i find that if i do a hard work out ajd and im stiff if i dont keep moving i completely sieze up hut i do have other conditions involved.look up some gentle standing or sitting yoga stuff might be worth trying to do a quick 10/15 min stretch later on before bed. even 5 mins does me wonders.

wouldn't limit doing something you love just try and find a way to help your body after doing it. i seriously miss dancing and horse riding but far too scared to go back so your inspiring.

my surgeon did tell me that id I run marathons or over work walk 15/20 miles every weekend my hip failure risk would increase he meant the dopes who have worn their hips in hill walking who go back to same intensity but it's put me off doing too much lol

and yea def drink more water before during and after... youll feel like you got to go like a racehorse but your muscles will thank you.

      have a lovely Thanksgiving xxxx

I was getting night leg cramps a lot. I read that Vitamin E can help. Once I started taking that every day I have not had any leg cramps.
