10 days post OP thr on right

hello I am 46 years old. 3 hip labrum repair surgeries the 4th finally was a total replacement I am 10 days post OP for the thr right side..I am crying a lot these day. I cant find any info out there where I should be at 2 weeks. I feel like I have sat on the remote that never goes away. knee pain and the one side of my rump looks like I call it my beyonce butt. is this normal will the lump of pain in my ass go away? I am so stiff I do my Pt but difficult going out to the side or lifting the left up feels like its gonna break. is all this normal 12 in scar posterior

    firstly the post op blues are common.

    you will still be fairly stiff and somewhat swollen, it passes

    the feeling of sitting on a lump also passes

    keep a lookout for redness and any other signs of infection and speak to a medic/ nurse if worried

    takes time

    I had posterior thr 9 weeks ago and even though I healed very well no issues . One of the biggest discomforts is the feeling of swelling in the ass cheek . I'm sure I was at week 5 before I fully felt it was gone . Keep up the stretches and excercises as if you dont you will get very stiff and restricted. I did a run a while back (do not attempt this) and I felt as if I had a shot putt in my ass cheek . I do deep massages around the scar and use scar cream to try and disperse. And yes your cheek will get back into shape but do slightly more excercise on operated side.

    Two weeks is early days. I didn't have the lumpy feeling, but I do know that others have posted about that in the past. I did have a lot of swelling, and I think that the whole thing is very tiring which can make us feel fed up. I did take all my meds initially, and I think that it's worth staying ahead of the pain, because then you can mobilise and do your exercises more easily.

    I wish you all the best with your recovery, just take it steadily. We all heal differently.

      Thank you. My post OP appointment was supposed to be 2 weeks but they have me scheduled 4 days past that and I am almost out of meds so I am trying to cut back to hold me till the dr can write another prescription . thanks for the advice.

    It sounds exactly where you should be right now honey! I think we expect an awful lot of ourselves, and that we should be much better than we actually are. Which makes you worried, tearful and exhausted. Personally I was so shocked at how hard it was to get over, which I understand is harder the younger you are because of muscle mass? In a way am glad that I didn't realize it would be like that otherwise I might have had reservations! In terms of swelling - you would have thought I was smuggling a large melon at the side / back of the hip, which at first I didn't realize, but spotted in the mirror when I was checking my outfit one day! And the scar? I'm rather attached to it now and has healed really nicely, but for a long time you would think it was a shark bite ( it's right from mid bum cheek to top third of the thigh). No one notices it when you go swimming etc. All the problems with getting your leg to do what you want do come eventually but it takes time and perseverance. Your best source of information and support is from this group and I'm extremely grateful for help and advice I've been given along the way. Be kind to yourself and keep going. x

    Hello,

    This is forum is the best place to be. Just remember that we all heal differently. If your struggling when moving as your stiff, use your dressing gown tie as a hoist. It helped me. Light exercise will help, have you been advised to do any?? Stretch your operated leg before you get out of bed. You will get there. I had a few wobbles along the recovery way. But forum is great.       I was given at home exercises. i do those but struggle.

      Just do your exercises a few at a time, and gradually you will find it's getting easier. I'm sorry that you're about to run out of meds. Maybe you could get some tomorrow?

      thank you! today is a new day and I am surprised what a day makes. Even though I not taking as much meds I slept through the night swaddled with pillows every where so I don't move in my sleep. i actually took a few steps on my own. but definitely not anywhere ready to give the cane up. pain is tolerable. so maybe I'll be fine from here on out. i just cant wait to help my granbaby learn to walk after I can. he 10 months old i don't want to miss the milestone.

      do you start off laying on your bed, moving your feet, then focus on your glutes and the raising operated leg. Dont worry if you dont raise it to high it will come. Try googling post op exercises for hip replacement. You will get there. Use ice on your muscle and also lay on your bed and elevate your legs, it all helps. Like Judith said it does take time.

    You've gotten such great advice already 😃. It's going to take a while for all of the swelling to go down. My hip area was swollen for quite a while. I wore a lot of T-shirt dresses the first month. It looked like I had a melon strapped to my side. I'm three months post op now and feel soooo much better. Ice is your friend. Keep icing, rest and walk as much as you can. Even if it's just a couple of extra steps going from point A to point B. I spent three weeks sleeping in a recliner. When I was in bed, it felt like I had a dead leg. Eventually you will be comfortable - it takes time and a little bit of creativity. Staying ahead of the pain works. For me, I saw milestones on a weekly basis. Everyone heals at their own pace, hang in there.... your new lease on life is around the corner!
