10 hours a night that is necessary for me, gets in the way of life

I am 50 years old and have always needed 9, now 10 hours of sleep a night. In my 20s I was diagnosed with hypersomnia, but I've been tested more recently and twice in the past 10 years and am just told I need more sleep than most people. Problem is, its not always possible. If I have to be up super early or things like a meeting for work that ends at 11:30pm and have to be back at work at 9am, I am a mess.

When I don't get enough sleep I don't feel safe driving, I am very tempermental and emotional, I am in physical pain trying to keep my eyes open. I can't think straight and make mistakes. Without any kind of diagnonsis, I can't prevent situations where I have no control over being too tired to work, and I don't want to call out sick.

I work in retail and luckily have a flexible boss, so can sleep in a couple days a week and go in later, but next week for example, I have to be in at 6am for inventory. Ill get done at 2, but will probably sleep nonstop for the next two days to catch up.

People always tell me its my imagination, or if I worked regular hours or exercised etc. I wouldn't need more sleep, but I always have even doing any of those things. It makes it hard to have a normal life sometimes. Even traveling, when I am enjoying myself, I am miserable if I have to be up too early after staying up too late.

Hello I am 55 year old male and I am having same problem. Ever since I was diagonized with CSVD & Brain Atrophy I am suffering from sleep disorder.  When  I go to sleep with the help of pills like Clonazepam & Elesert 100 i have vivid dreams sometimes horror also.  I don't know whether this period is included in the sleep pattern or else but I feel very tired in the next day morning. As I have to go to office when I return for lunch I have to take sleep for a shorter period.  After that I feel very tired with hedache and sometimes even skip my afternoon session.  What is the remedy for this? I am in a confused stage as this is continuing for the past 8 months. Anybody can give tips to overcome this.
