10 weeks on citalopram

good morning. I went cold turkey for a week in February and restarted citalopram at the dose that I was currently on which was 20 mg. I stayed on that dose for 5 weeks and then my GP increased to 40 mg 5 weeks ago. My anxiety is still high, mood is low, and my morning anxiety is unbearable. I have an appointment with my GP tomorrow to discuss what has been going on, but I wanted any other insight from people on this forum. Could the 40 mg dose be too high for me, or should I just continue taking the 40 mg for another couple of weeks since a dose usually needs 6-8 weeks to reach efficacy? Any help would greatly be appreciative!

can i ask why you came off in the first place? you will be having withdrawal and start up and possibly the 40mgs is too high

stupidly I came off without checking with my doctor. It was a pride issue thinking I was fine, which i may have been but I didn't wean myself properly. I had been on 40 mg until Spring of 2019, then reduced to 20 mg as a maintenance dose. I know the mistake I made now has set me back, but I cannot understand why i still feel so bad when I was only off for a short time.
