10 weeks - still anxious, feeling down, side effects

Hello everyone, hope some people respond to this thread. I've been on Citalopram 20mg for 10 weeks, i've had some good days during this time, the most recent was 9 good days in a row. BUT, that was over a week ago now, i seem to be stuck in an anxious, feeling down blip, is it normal for blips to last this long? I'm also going walking daily and listening to meditations. So i'm also trying to help myself but i feel rubbish to be honest. I also for the past 3ish weeks have had muscle fatigue, muscle aching and feeling stiff, im guessing its a side effect as my bloods are fine.

I'm feeling quite disheartened to be honest. I know i've had good days but i havent had tons, i did used to be on citalopram years ago for only a few months and came off and they worked amazingly.

Does anyone have any success stories of still getting relief from the anxiety after 10 weeks of being on the meds? I just hope the meds havent maxed out and this is the best im getting because its horrible 😦

Thank you,

J x

hello Jade, i'm new to the forum but its been a great help while starting my 20mg dose of Citalopram. This is my first time being on these meds for Health Anxiety, so reading up on the side effects people have also been experiencing has really helped. I've just started my 8th week on 20mg and likewise I've had what seems to be most of the expected side effects early on in the first few weeks, then I started to feel fantastic with the edge really taken off of my anxiety, still with very mild side effects, but the past 5-6 days I have been experiencing what feels like a side effect of spacey/zombie/foggy feeling with my eyes/head. its mild and intermittent throughout the day. felt like it was less often yesterday but I have also noticed my anxiety return slightly and my mild loss of appetite has returned too - which I know can also be the anxiety. It has also made me wonder if I've now hit a sort of wall with the meds and will this pass like the previous side effects. Apologies that this isn't a success story, I have found that the meds are working, its just with my anxiety and as this is all new to me, I still look for reassurance in this forum. I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for your reply Thomas! I'm sure the foggy head etc will pass, as in my personal experience, thats a side effect that comes and goes quite alot. My doctor actually told me yesterday to stop the citalopram due to my muscle ache issues etc, but i have agreed to drop the dose to 10mg instead and review in 2 weeks. Good luck on your journey 😃
