My title explains it all.. I'm 32 and I eat like a bird but been gaining weight like crazy over the last 10 years.. My husband and I have one son after almost 3 years of trying..

I begged my GP for a gastric bypass but he referred me to a gym, I've already had experience of going to a gym and lost nothing.. instead, I gained! sad I'm depressed and constantly crying even in public, I'm loosing  control and desperate to loose weight! How can I convince my GP enough is enough, let's do the Bypass?!

    Hi

Has your doc tried you on orlistat and metformin?

I was told 7wks ago I have pcos n put on both tablets and I've gone from 22st 10lb down to 21 stone already.

I have one child after 3 n half yrs of trying and after another 3 yrs of trying n lots of other problems-weight gain being a big problem- I went to the docs n here I am. I need to loose LOTS of weight before they'll refer me to get fertility help at the hospital.

Orlistat made my stomach burn so bad I had to be excused from work, I'm afraid of the effects Metfomin would have on me. Because I work as a pre prep school cleaner, I cannot be constantly excused but my weight is causeing so much pain I take pain killeres everyday.. I want to try Metfomin on the one week I have off in late August. Does it really work?

Not sure it would be much use for one week as it needs time to help. Oh dear; ive never heard of orlistat burning before Just the oily leaks!  Ive been lucky on this as ive had no side affects but I have stuck to the 5g fat in 100g rule n no more then 15g per meal.

There are 2 sorts of metformin (so I've read on here) so maybe you should discuss it with the doc.

I'm a lazy cow n apart from walking I don't do any other exercise so the tablets definitely work for me!

Metformin is used to help reduce blood sugar levels.. Diabetics take it as Meds instead of Insulin.

I'm aware of that, My doctor told me about Metformin.. Thus I'm skeptical if it will work on me or worse If it will hurt me..

Your condition is about Hormones and this is what makes you put on weight..there are lots of horrible symptoms that come with Polycystic Ovarian Symptoms. Its most probably not your diet..Has your Doctor not told you this? The Gym wont help that much apart from toning you up, and helping your metabolic rate.. you would be better off buying yourself a stepcross trainer/or bike as this helps with a daily routine..The health Gym charge too much.. Try to cut the Carbs this is the best way keep below 60mgs a day ..look up the Paleo Diet... I think your Doctor is being unfair and seems he is not telling all about the condition..

It plays havoc with Gonadotrophin hORMONE PRESENTING IN THESE SYMPTOM'S..

Some of the symptoms of PCOS include:Infertility (not able to get pregnant) because of not ovulating. ...

Infrequent, absent, and/or irregular menstrual periods.

Hirsutism (HER-suh-tiz-um) — increased hair growth on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toes.

    Cysts on the ovaries.

    Acne, oily skin, or dandruff.

I've told my doctor I don't even use my teeth when eating, I liqiudate every vegetable and fruit! I don't Carbz, not even wholewheat! I don't drink carbonated softdrinks or juice.

I'vr been doing a Liquidated Paleo Diet. it's disgusting!

As for my Period I get it 3 times a year if I get lucky!

I cried infront of my doctor when i saw him on the 7th of July.. and since then I cry even when going to work and cleaning the classrooms! I feel he's playing with me and just pulling my strings..

Hello Lubelle. Have you definitely been diagnosed with PCOS? If so,you need to returne to your GP and ask to be referred to an endocrinologist.Dawnregina is right to describe the symptoms of PCOS as horrible. As it's a syndrome,it has many symptoms ,including weight which is hard to lose.I have PCOS and many of it's symptoms which have bothered me since puberty.I am now 63 and some symptoms are still bothering me!!!! That's how I know,if you've been diagnosed with PCOS you need an endocrinologist~ GPs know very little about the condition. I wish you well. Connie.

Yes, it's definite, Thank you so much! I have another appointment with a different doctor this week as my last GP seemed more to judge me and patronize me.. I will ask for an endocrinologist. THANK YOU!!

I know how frustrating and desperate someone can become with these kind of problems. I work with people that have similar difficulties. The main problem (or what I believe is the main problem) is the metabolic system of the body, in most cases it is in  such a bad state that we find it difficult to achieve any sort of healthy lifestyle and I know there are many other factors to this but what about the foods that we eat, the diet we have daily.

You have to agree with me when I say that the foods nowadays are packed with artificial preservatives and chemicals and most importantly damaged by us cooking them. This results in loss of many essential nutrients and "building blocks" for our cells. Even with famous diets like the Paleo Diet and the Cambridge Diet it is not enough or sometimes it is worse for us. The important thing to consider is consuming the right nutrients and the right AMOUNT to be able to restore our health and achieve, for example for you, your ideal body weight! and ofcourse other health benefits following that smile
