100mg

I have been on sertaline 50mg for a month now! Not had any real improvement to speak of, or at least that I have noticed other than perhaps not feeling so light headed and like I am going to fall over when walking or like I am on a boat! So that is something! Anyway I haven't felt much better apart from these last two days when I started to pick up a bit. Haven't had any major side effects either which is good (although I did feel more anxious when I first started them and had upset stomach twice).

So anyway today been to GP and he said, as many people have said on here, that 50mg is a v low dose and most people take 100 or 150mg to get real benefits. So I am going to start 100mg. So my question is... What differences - good and bad - have people noticed? Did you get side effects? GP seemed to think sertraline has very few side effects and is well tolerated compared to some anti depressants which is contrary to what I have read on here sometimes! Any tips and info/experiences would be helpful!

Thank you!

Hi Jane I've been on 150g of sertraline for a year now it's a long road but the drug has done wonders for granted I've had a few months here and there with bad side affects as in a upset stomach to the point now I'm a little scared if I need to trump lol but I would suggest you stick at it I'm due back at the docs this month and might begin to come down now but I find it a lot easier to deal with my panic attacks and haven't had a side affect for about 3 months now

So keep at it and GOOD LUCK X

Thanks! When you said 'a long road' do you mean that it takes a while to get started, for you to feel better etc? Also, when you increased your medication by 50mg each time, did you notice side effects? x

thats great graham84 - so you've been on a steady dose for a year of 150mg then?? did you start on 50mg and work up to 150mg - i did, started on 50mg then 100mg, i'd have good days and still alot of bad days, went onto 150mg about 6-8 weeks ago and the difference it's made for me are brilliant, i'm much more like myself. did you find that you're pretty stable on this dose and not many up and downs, i'm worried that i feel great now and all of a sudden i'm going to hit a wall again like i did with the lower doses and had to increase it???

thanks and glad it's worked out for you :-)

    morning jane97070,

i'm the same, i started on 50mg but it was 11 months ago for me, i'm now on 150mg and definately feeling the benefits from increasing it.  50mg was too low for me but did get side effects of migranes and some days constant yawning although i didn't feel particularly tired!! i've read on here so many people have struggled with insomnia, i've been lucky enough never to have that problem with my meds so i'm grateful for that because i'm a nightmare with lack of sleep!!

i'm feeling much better on it, but do also get the dickie tummy, it's very random and only happened a handful of times in the 11 months i've been taking sertraline.

all in all, i rely on my medication and awful lot to keep my head in the right place, i know you're never supposed to rely on meds for that but compared to the place i was in before my meds compared to now, i never want to visit that dark and miserable place again. don't get me wrong, i still have down days, it's not all a bed of roses but it's manageable for me now, whereas before, i was totally lost and consumed with negative thoughts and gave myself a really hard time with it, but now things are looking brighter and i'm able to cope on a day to day basis :-) hope all settles down for you jane and keep in touch :-) xx

Thanks for your reply! I havent had bad insomnia, a few nights I have struggled to sleep or woken up early but it's not as bad as some people on here have written about. When you were increasing from 50 to 100 did you get side effects, or were side effects just at the start?

i forgot to mention the weight loss in my last message, i've lost over a stone on this medication without even really trying either!! well the increase to 150mg was a bit strange really, started getting bouts of brain freeze but not from drinking cold drinks, like a fuzzing in my head, can't really explain it very well, don't know if that had anything to do with the medication, but it's made a big difference to my well being and general day to day life, i don't stress half as much as what i used to, i used to worry over stupid things like washing, dishes, walking the dog etc!!  i'm never the kind of person to worry about things like that so as soon as i noticed that i got straight to the doctors, i've had depression and anxiety all my adult life, so i know the signs to look for but no medication has ever done as well for me as sertraline has. it's helped me massively :-)

it's nice to hear a positive story about it... did you get the brain freeze and fuzzy head when you increased from 50 to 100, or just 100 to 150?

just when i increased recently to 150mg, i have noticed though that i've not had it as much this week, it's not painful, just annoying because you can feel it kind of pulsing in your head/ear. i've been on 150mg for about 6-8 weeks now and it's settling well :-)

    Hi Jane,

A lot of Doctors step up the dosage and it works for some people and for some sadly no so well. Just make sure if your still not feeling better or start noticing new side effects or feel worse then tell your doctor immediately. Sounds like your doing good with no side effects. Every person is different so don't let other people side effects and comments scare you off Zoloft everyone is different and some may experience a horrible experience with Zoloft, while some may not and do very well with it. Good luck I hope it works for you! smile
