100mg - After 6 weeks - still feel horrendous

Posted , 5 users are following.

Has anyone gone up to 100mg and it has just been too much for them? If so, did you reduce down and did the side effects get better? I just don't know what to do! I was feeling good on week 3&4 and then went downhill which I put down to a change in brand, but I have been back on my original brand for 6 days and still have sky high anxiety, upset stomach, night sweats and the shakes 24/7

Before this I was on 50mg for 18 months

    Hi Gayle,

You would be better discussing the side effects with your doctor with a view to finding a medication that works for you with minimal side effects.

Sertraline didn't work very well for me personally but I know it has helped many.

We are all different and have different tolerances and requirements for our medication.

I tried Trazodone which contributed to bad panic attacks and am currently on Paroxatine which seems to be helping.

    Best wishes

    Keep us updated.

    Peace 🙏

      Hi Zen,

Thanks for your reply! I had been on 50mg Sertraline for 18 months and it had helped until I had a health issue which caused the panic attacks and anxiety to come back. I have only been feeling like this since the increase to 100mg x

Hi, I like you changed brands & OMG it was like starting all over again, had all your symptoms, as said, check with your GP, he may give you something like I got, anixcalm, for when "side effects" were bad, I am now on week 8 & I am so glad I stuck it out as I feel normal, whatever that is - lol.

Its a pain in the bum when you take something to make you feel better & it makes you feel so bad, but it does get better when your body gets used to it.

Be careful you stick with the same brand as while generic maybe cheaper its not worth it.

Hope you feel better soon, hang in there, but chat to GP.

Wishing you a lovely Christmas & peace of mind for 2019 x

      Hi Jean,

How long did your symptoms last after changing brands? xx

      Hi Gayle.

I didnt know what was wrong with me as my anxiety came back & I felt so sick & I rang and asked would getting a different brand of tablet make me feel this way, she said its been known to....

so for it all to settle down again having asked for Lustral, it took maybe 2 weeks but to be fully settled again it was three weeks, but honestly it was worth it even if I thought I cant do this again, but little by little the side effects went.

I am attending CBT & the Lady I see warned me that I may hit a bad patch every now and again until fully settled, she was right, going along grand then bang what i call a wobble...

its not easy but do try & hang in there as I was advised, but totally up to you as my lovely GP said "you know your body & how you feel & we will go with that". so whatever you want to do & feel is best for you.

    Hi,

I'm having exactly the same experience and it's just awful. Sorry you're going through it too. My mood is so low probably because of the anxiety, lack of sleep etc. I have an appt. with my GP today and although I'm apprehensive, I may ask to change antidepressants or see what they think about reducing as you say.

What are you thinking you'll do?

      Hi Amy,

Are you on 100mg? Have you changed brands? I went to see my Dr after 8 days of changing brands and he said that it could be that although it is rare, so prescribed me my original brand (Ranbaxy) but I still feel bad. Although my anxiety does start lifting at around 4pm every day, but then I wake up full of anxiety the next day! xx

Sorry you are having problems with this drug.

I was on 25mg for 7 days. Did not like feelings and side effects.

I quit. My opinion is if the side effects are so terrible, get off the drug.

Your body is rejecting this substance. Look for natural ways to help yourself.

Counseling from a psychologist or meditation would be a good place to start.

    Good luck and take care.

      Hi Michele,

I was on 50mg for 18 months with no problems, so that's why I am thinking of reducing back down again x

      Hi Michele

can I ask you are you OK now, without meds & going the natural route etc., just wondering..

When I quit I had only been on meds for a few days. It was easy to quit. Doc told me it would not be a problem for me to stop all at once. The dose I was taking was 25mg once a day. By the third day I thought the side effects were worse than a panic attack. If that small amount made me feel that bad I didn't want to increase dosage. Everyone is different. I'm not suggesting anyone should go against what your doctor orders. But, listen to your mind and body. You know how you feel. You are not crazy! Anxiety is just a feeling.

If you take a drug and have a bad side effect they will tell you to take another drug with the first one to fight the side effect. On and on.

      However,

I want to live my life feeling the way I am supposed to. And so far I feel fine without mind altering drugs.

      Bless you and take care.
