    Hi Susannah.

with me I started to feel the benefits after about 4 weeks, anxiety wise but the side effects like nauseous and dizziness didn't go for 8 to 10 weeks.

But im feeling good at the moment.

everyone is different tho. Stick with it it will be worth it in the end.

but I will add every time you up the dose the side effects seem to come again until the settle in your system.

iv been on 25mg for 7 months and that works for me.

    Good luck x

I have been on Sertraline for about 5 years ( other makes before that) I ended up on 200 mg. I had lots of side effects. I decided I was going to reduce the dose so over 8 weeks I reduced to 100 mg. I am now trying to get down to 50mg taking 100mg 1day and 50mg the next. I thought I was doing ok but suddenly I am having dizzy spells and am very tearful. To be honest I am sorry I ever started them I don't think I will ever get off them. I also gets bouts of diarrhoea which I think is due to the Sertraline

      Hi Lorraine.

      sorry you feel so down.

im on 25mg and I plan to stay on them until the new year,

did they work for you at some stage??

i haven't any idea how to come off them when the time comes when I feel I can manage without them.

Im 57 and I was always told life gets easier when we get older.

      Im still waiting.

hope you get sorted soon, it's a big thing for us to start on these and I think it's a even bigger thing to come off them 🙁X

      Hello Julie

i have been on antidepressants since I was in my twenties and had my first bout of ulcerative colitis.

i think I have been on most antibiotics on the market.

They all seem to work and then I would have a very down period and my dose would be increased.

i am 68 and wish I had never ever started taking them.

i hope I can eventually come off them. I also take diazepam.

You will feel better for awhile but if you are like me you will still get bouts of anxiety and depression.

      Bless you

Thats a long time to be on antidepressants,

i take them because I have health anxiety, last year was the worse year for it with one thing and another with my health.

I have acid reflux and when it was at it's worse thought I was having a heart attack that's what triggered it all.

They have taken the edge off it.

i think I may have spoken to you before on here.

Hope we can all come off them one day, but at this stage I don't know where I would be if I hadn't started on them x

    Hey Susannah,

I am in the same boat as you at the moment, I increased my Sertraline to 100mg 2 weeks ago today, 3 days this week I felt about 50% better, but yesterday and today I have felt awful..  Not so much anxious but really down and feel like I could cry quite easily!!!

I have been here before and I know you need to give the medicine time but I am such an inpatient person and I am scared that I will never get better!

Anyway please feel free to message me, perhaps we can keep each other going over the next couple of weeks.

    regards

    Emma

I have been on sertraline for 10 weeks and on 150mg for 4 weeks at a continual dose and it is really starting to work. I had all the side effects and was so frustrated because I thought I was never going to feel like " me" again . It is the hardest journey you will ever take , give the med's some time to work, I know it seems like FOREVER but it does get better. I also see a great therapist and have started to meditate and I finally see a light at the end of this very long dark tunnel . Good luck and stay strong

Hi. This SSRI is the first one that I've had noticeable negative side effects. I've been on celexa, prozac and paxil over the years with very little side effect. I'm starting on week 4 of 100mg after ramping up from 50mg the first week. The side effects were an large increase of anxiety, slight nausea and decrease in appetite. The anxiety was so bad the first week to week and half I was thinking about quitting but stuck with it, and glad I did. Now this past few days I'm starting to feel a marked decrease in anxiety and my appetite is coming back. I've had no sleeping problems because I also take 50mg of elavil (amitriptyline) with zoloft before bed. Oh, the other thing I forgot to mention, with the other ssri's I taken I had very little side effects and they started working in about 2 weeks, zoloft is taking so much longer to kick in. I see my docter in a few weeks and will see If I need to increase to another 25mg for a total of 125mg.

It takes 4 to 6 weeks. Give it time. If it still is causing problems then, have your doctor put you on something different. Sometimes Sertraline is not the right medicine for a person. :D
