100mgs since 7/13. Advise please

Posted , 10 users are following.

I started Sertraline June 19th at 25 mgs for three days. Then went to 50 mgs until July 13th. So I been on the 100 mgs and I been doing okay with side effects. I am just tired and not feeling motivation to do anything. I am hoping this passes soon. I am not in a fuzzy state. My mind doesn't race as much as it used to. I have had a few anxiety attacks but take a low dose of zanax to help. I am just wondering if I will get modivation soon. This is only the 3rd week and I feel like not going to work in the mornings but still go. When I get home or the weekend comes I don't want to leave my apartment. Series of events that were out of my control started my issues about 10 years ago. I just want me back. Course most of us do. Any encouragemention and advise is well taken. Thank you.

    Hey lyn,

I am on week 7 of 100mg after switching to sertraline from citalopram which did nothing for me. I had very much the same symptoms as you, just generally very tired and not wanting to, or having the energy to do anything. I recently switched from taking my tablet in the morning to taking it at night and this small change has had a huge impact on how I'm feeling. I have so much more energy and am finally beginning to feel like I want to do things again.

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel after what feels like an eternity.

When do you take your tablet? Might be worth thinking about taking it later, if a it doesn't work for you you can always switch back.

I took one at lunch the first day, one at around 6 the next and now I take them just before I go to bed.

Hope this helps even a little. Hang in there, your old self is in there just waiting to come out.

I take mine at 545 am every morning. I noticed that I wake up between 3am and 5am which is way too early since my alarm is due to go off at 530 am. I might think about switching it. I just also want to sleep good at night. I was nervous in the beginning to take it at night from reading about others issues. I might look into switching it though that is a great tip since I been on it a while now. But this is the 3rd week on

100 mgs. So the start up symptoms might be over with. Just anxious feelings during the day.

    Hi

I've been on sert since Oct. I was on 100 but am just starting to taper down. I agree it would be worth trying to take them before bed. I took mine in the morn & used to feel a peak mid aft which was uncomfortable. So I thought I'd try it at night so it peaked whilst asleep. Altho I do now have vivid dreams almost every night, they're not nightmares so it's just more irritating than upsetting. I'd give it a try. Xx

Thank you for your advise. Did you have trouble sleeping too when you took them in the morning? I am just not liking not sleeping until my alarm goes off. It's like clockwork that I wake up between 3am and 5am. I take it at 545 am.

Yes I'd make the change over the weekend whilst not at work. In the early days, even slight changes to dosage /routine can renew any side effects.

Considering how bad some of the side effects can be (i think I went thru them all at one point) I'd class a lack of sleep as a milder one! Preferable to diarrhoea, heightened anxiety etc. Stick with it and hold on to the fact that with each passing day your mind (& body) is more used to it and will settle and steady soon xx

Hi, I haven't posted for a long time but seeing your post reminded me of myself a year ago. I started on 50mg last july then went upto 100mg after a month. I used to take mine in the morning but after feeling fed up of seeing much difference and looking at others experiences I decided to switch to taking if before bed which has made such an improvement, I get up and feel ready for the day. I also have vivid dreams but like mentioned earlier there not nightmares just really random dreams! Ive also been grinding my teeth in the night something I never done before but you can buy mouth guards, my dentist made me a guard but I dont use it because it feels weird! The side effects will get much better you just have to give it time I think it was about 6-8 weeks until I felt 'normal' but them weeks seemed to take forever to come so hang on in there. I was nervous like most people to start sertraline and it took a while to pluck up the courage but its been the best thing I could have ever done, if I didnt I dont know where id be now its literally saved my life. I dont know how drs wean you of or when they decide the time is righ that makes me really nervous, I dont want to ever go back to how I was.

Take one day at a time and dont push yourself yourself. smile

Thank you so much. I am having a hard time getting motivated and just want to be able to sleep until my alarm goes off too. I hope that will help. I may start the change tomorrow or wait until the weekend to have a switch.

    Hello mate

Ally I can say is that it takes a while for this med to kick in. And for some of us ,like me it didn't.I had really bad side effects.after 12 weeks off work ,more panic attacks and swetts .I stopped. Felt allot better than taking them.then I felt anxiaty kicking in again I was placed on citrapram .and the only side effect I get is weird dreams low sex drive. But feel great. So if you feel sh*t after 10 to 12 weeks change.

Its a hard slog you have to try your self .be more positive and push your self to be the person you want to be. Its not all down to the meds. They are only a plaster over a big wound.!!!! All the best

Did anyone have issues where they wake up too early when they take it in the morning? I am thinking about switching to the evening like some of you have suggested but I am wondering if anyone else had sleep issues to? Did it get better after switching from taking it in the morning to the evening?

I've just come down from 100mg  back to 50mg as the higher doze was too high for me, it made me feel anxious although seem to work on the depression. However I seem to be feeling better since the decrease so maybe the 100mg gave me a boost. Anyhow I now feel ready to go back to work after 6 weeks. I take my tablet when I wake up and over the years when I have been on them have always done this. I to have amazing dreams in colour quite often totally random but, nice. I only dream like this when I'm on sertaline. Alas it means that my sleep is not always refreshing and I do have trouble getting to sleep but, at the moment I feel alot better than I did even a week ago. I would stick with it and hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Today I feel motivated to go to work which is a great sign. I wish I could get a full nights sleep but I am feeling great this morning. I hope after taking it I don't loose this feeling. Open mind with it today. Not sure quite yet about switching it to evenings. I just want a better nights sleep and my anxiety to go away. We will see how today goes. But right now I am in a great mood and loving it.

      Hi Lynn,

So glad to hear your having a good day today. In response to your question about sleeping I was very much like you when I took them in the morning, waking up at around 3-4 am most days.

Having been taking my at night for almost a week now last night was the first night in a long time that I actually slept all the way through until my alarm at 7 am.

Thank you so much for letting me know you had the same sleep issues. I think I will switch it over. Lack of sleep can help to the lack of motivation. Just nervous about switching things around causing a stir up. But hey if it helps with the sleep then we'll worth it!

Just another opinion. I started mine at night before bed.  Had insomnia.  No sleep.  Had to change to mornings.  Sleeping is much better.

Hang in there. Seemed that things got worse for me the one day they got better. Been having good days. Can you talk to you dr to see if they can give you a low dose of something to help with the anxiety? I was on the lowest dose of zanax and I only took a 4th of a pill and it helped on those high anxiety days. You can message me anytime if you want :-)

I remember those days. I am hope 100mgs is enough for me for a long time. I still get the shakes a little but I am able to get past them and its not a full anxiety attack or panic attack. I am really glad I brought this into my life 10 years with nothing was suffering and not enjoying life. I see the old me finally coming back. So keep in there. Once you get to the point of happy you will be like it was a walk in the park.
