10cm Ovarian Cyst and nervous...

I just found out today from my the PA at my GYN office that I have a 10cm cyst that has taken over my left ovary and is attached to my bowel by scar tissue from previous abdominal surgeries. This pain has been on and off for over a year. I was in the hospital 2 months ago with nausea, vomiting, and bowel problems. They found the Cyst after doing a CT in the ER but didn't give much thought to it. Now I am having problems with pain in my lower back and pain when I have to urinate or have gas. The nausea is starting to come back. The PA stated she will be talking to my Gyn and I should know what the next step will be no later than Monday. I have been put on Pelvic Rest.

Sitting here I am getting my anxiety all worked up because I am wondering if this will require another surgery and if they will be able to do this laparoscopically? I have already had them go in once and have to clean up scar tissue from my hysterectomy and then gastric bypass. I really don't want any more scars, plus I know how painful abdominal surgery is already.

Has anyone else had to go threw this? How was your surgery preformed? How long were you off work?

Thank You for any thing any one is willing to share.

    Hey lori xxx

That is awful what you've been through the last couple of months why they didn't do anything about that cyst is beyond me! I had a 11x10x10 dermoid cyst which was attached badly to my right ovary...! It had found a home and didn't want to come out lol.... So they done my surgery laparoscopically with 3 incisions around my belly! They had to remove my ovary along with the cyst because they were worrying about long term damage! The first week or so I was in pain but after that it Eased! I was back to work 3 weeks later on light duties only doing paperwork ( I work in a very busy warehouse) hope this puts your mind at rest for the recovery and the op smile because it can be done the way you want it to be!

smile let me know how you get on 😘😘😘

Thank you Stacy very much - that does help a lot because everything I was reading stated a 6weeka to 4 month recovery. I work in an ER and I love to work. Don't know how I would survive being off to long. I am going to talk to the physician and ask if it can be done laparoscopically.

Hi Lorilu25, I had a 22cm dermoid cyst on my ovary. Because of its size they had to cut from my waistline to above my bellybutton. I was out of work for 5 weeks. They wanted me to stay out for 6-8 weeks but my short term disability was only approved for 5. I went back to work and found it hard to sit for long periods of time without alot of pain so I would take frequent breaks and stand up and walk around.

    Went to the ER over the weekend due to some increased pain I was having and they did another Ultrasound. I have 3 cyst on my left ovary #1 (9.5cm x 6.2 cm x 9.3cm) --- #2 (5.9cm x 6cm x 5.4cm) --- #3 (3cm x 4.9cm)

They sent me home with pain medications and I spoke with my physician today. I have a surgery consult tomorrow at 2 pm. I am hoping to get this done ASAP.

      Hey lori...

Well let's just put it this way at least they are doing something about it and have actually started the ball rolling now! I don't understand how some nurses/doctors don't help people that are in an excruciating amount of pain but leave it sometimes too late! Angers me ! Where you said before about the 10cm cyst, did ER or a doctor confirm any growth in these cysts ? I would love to know how you prevents these little sh*ts !

How are you feeling in yourself my lovely ? Xxx

      Hi Stacy,

Let me try to put this on a time line:

2013 - I was told my ovary was attached to my bowel after I had to have surgery to remove scar tissue that was cutting off the blood flow

2014 - I started to having some pain in my left did so I went to the ER due to pain and was referred to a Gyn.

Gyn said yes you have a cyst and I think it is aggravated by your monthly cycle even though you had a hysterectomy. However even if it was a problem I won't touch it. You will have to go to Pittsbugh and see a specialist. (I thought he was a specialist) so I just delt with the pain.

10/2015 I was in the hospital for nausea, vomiting, and GI problems. While there they did a CT while in the ER which showed a mass.

After I got out of the hospital I followed up with the Doctor I seen in the hospital. She referred me to a GI specialist and a different GYN. (It took 6weeks to get in with these specialist)

Last week the Gastroenterologist physician decided to do an Upper GI tomorrow.

I got a phone call from the nurse today at the GYN's office. He looked over my Ultrasounds today and decided he would do a follow up Ultrasound in 6 weeks and then we would decide how to proceed. I started to cry on the phone and the nurse told me he was going out of town for a couple weeks. I told her I didn't care this would give me time to get the pre-op things done. I want this left ovary, cyst and and anything else that has been causing me problems gone ASAP. She said she would call me back. The nurse spoke to the physician assistant and the PA talked to the doctor. Needless to say I have an appt. tomorrow for a surgery consult. He will do the surgery when he returns.

The moral of my story is this has been a long road and I feel like I have had to fight for myself. No one else understands the pain I am in and I am not asking for a bunch of pains medications. I am just asking for it to come out as soon as possible. I don't know how long this has actually taken to grow this large. 2 years ago it was just my ovary attached to my bowel. Now I have 2 large cyst and 1 small. #1 (9.5cm x 6.2 cm x 9.3cm) --- #2 (5.9cm x 6cm x 5.4cm) --- #3 (3cm x 4.9cm)

Add it up its just a big mass and a mess. Hopefully if all goes well I will be under the knife right after he returns.

I know that was a long story but I hope it helps answer your question.

      Much Love - Merry Christmas

      Hi Lori

I have been ill with nausea more severe in Oct/14 to Feb /15 then it got lighter Mar/15-Sept/15 then felt it starting to be bothersome again started to take gravol for nausea in Oct/15-Dec15. Now Jan/16 off gravol but my GP and all specialist could not find anything have had blood work tests for every organ and about 3 weeks ago had a ultrasound to show a simple 6cm cyst on my right ovary.

Waiting to see a gyn I wonder if all this nausea was from the cyst growing?

I had a ultrasound Nov 4/15 another one Dec 18th and it did not grow. Do you know if you were told that the nausea you had was a result from cyst or its growing?

You had a endoscope you said does this effect the cysts? I have a scope coming up sad How was yours ?

How are you feeling these days... were you told any exercises not to do?

      Thx

      Hi Robin

I have 3 cyst on my left ovary #1

      (9.5cm x 6.2 cm x 9.3cm) --- #2 (5.9cm x 6cm x 5.4cm) --- #3 (3cm x 4.9cm) everything sn attached to my bowel with scar tissue.

I have been told pelvic rest - no exercise, no lifting, pushing or pulling more than 5#, and no sex because they are worried about a torsion. I have surgery schedule for Feb 26th. My physician took me off work because I work in the ER.

I have a lot of problems with nausea abdominal pain, and getting constipation. My right ovary is unable to be visualized because everything is push over so far. Currently I am feeling better because I think the inflammation has gone done.

My Nausea, abdominal pain, and constipation comes and goes depending on how things have swelled or gone down at the time. I hope you get relief soon, good luck!

Oops sorry, about the endoscopy, I had Gastric by pass 3 years ago and with all the nausea they wanted to make sure I didn't have an ulcer. If you think about how the cyst move everything up and over as they grow its very possiable to cause the nausea.

I really am just beside myself at this point. We just got done at my GYNs office. I have to have an extensive surgery to remove my left ovary and 3 cyst. The largest one being 4inches. The problem is everything is attached to my bowel by adhesions. I need to have the GYN d/t the ovary and cyst, a General surgeon d/t the mass of adhesions attached to the bowel, and a Urologist to put glowing stents in my ureters to protect them during the surgery so they don't cut them in the mess.

The soonest they can get me in to do all this is Feb. 26th. We were hoping to do this by mid-Jan at the latest. The surgery schedular said worse case scenario, I get a torsion and they have to go in and do an emergency surgery. In the mean time I can't push, pull, or lift so they don't want me working. This just really sucks.

Just found out I have a 10cm cyst on my left ovary and a cyst on my rectum. I don't have insurance or $ for a specialist and I'm in the worst pain in my life. The ER sent me home with antibiotics & 10 Tylenol #3 that didn't last very long. I have 3 young boys and can't even take care of them because of the pain. How can I get the ER to admit me & do surgery instead of sending me home?
