10mg then problems

Posted , 2 users are following.

I had been taking 5mg Amlodipine for some time without any side-effects, except for a slight itchy feeling all-over. I checked my blood pressure regularly at home and it was always below 140/80.

Two weeks ago I had to visit my doctor on a routine checkup, he took my bp and it read 155/90 (for some reason my bp always reads higher at the surgery) and he upped my dosage to 10mg Amlodipine.

Ever since then my itchiness has increased to a point that I can't stop scratching myself, also my ankles have swollen, especially the left one, which is up like a balloon by the end of the day.

I am approaching 65 and my weight is ok for my height and I keep active. Is there another drug I can take without suffering these side-effects. :?:

    Hi Sion

Blood pressure equipment also reads different from one to another in hospitals.

When my daughgter had ot stay in due to high blood pressure duing her pregnancy the one they used on a stand (electronic one) always gave a higher reading than the old style one.

They in the end stopped using the electronic one saying the original one gives a more accurate reading. No idea why though!

    Melbi x,

Thanks for that reply. I have also heard the saying \"white coat syndrome\", when a patient feels tense with the doctor, which in turn raises the blood pressure giving an untrue reading.

I wonder how many people have been given drugs for bp owing to wrong pressure readings, either because of faulty equipment or \"white coat syndrome\"? Food for thought?

if your readings are ok at home go back to 5mg as your home readings are true and the ones at gp are always higher
