10weeks on setraline now taken a dip

After about 8 weeks on 50g i felt a little improvement in anxiety and low mood, so was quite encouraged. However now on week 11 and black cloud has hit a few days ago. So I rather disappointed and feel its all been a waste of time. Why the dip?

Hi jenny, do not get discouraged it may just mean you need a slight increase, have a chat to you Dr and see what they think, some would say 50 is still low, but what ever you do do not give up, if you have had good days/weeks they are obviously working, just need a bit of adjustment

Thank you Sue. I cant get to see Dr for a few weeks but bit nervous to go up in dose. It seems so erratic the way it affects people. Just a bit discouraged had hoped i had turned a corner but feel back to square one!

try not to worry you are not going back to square one and also do not be scared to increase, do it little and slow then if you find it too much you can drop back down till you settle, I am on 50 and got there with 12.5 increases. if you cannot see Dr for a couple of weeks can you get a phone call from them sooner?

Hi Jenny, I think Ive seen you on here before and replied/asked ? Im 2 weeks behind you and Im having the same issue now that you had 2 weeks ago. Im wondering how you got on? I hope you got to speak to your Dr. Im speaking to mine tomorrow to discuss if I should stay on 50mg which Ive been on for about a week now. My hope is that I was on 25mg for about 8 weeks and had some periods of feeling fine, so thinking the higher dose needs longer to take effect in my body. If I had to go to work I think Id have given up on these, its taking such a long time. I come on here to find some positive examples of it working eventually! and there have been replies to stick with it and it will kick in sometime. But Im getting frustrated at my lack of motivation and energy. Thankfully the nausea has mostly gone. Like you I thought Id turned a corner, then feel like Im back to square one, but actually thats not the case if Im feeling virtually no anxiety, fear, dread. Its a conundrum . It would be good to hear how its gone for you since you posted a couple of weeks ago??? Just to add, I had success on 50 mg a couple of years ago and I never increased it. All the best.

Hi Elizabeth, yes i am on about 13 weeks now. i feel ok, but i am suffering from driving anxiety which doesnt seem improved. I have to drive about 75 miles on the weekend and i am dreading it. its hard to know just how much these tablets can help long standing anxiety. I dont want to completely change character but would like to look forward to things instead of dreading most things. i am seeing my doctor next week to discuss. long delay to get appointment. so see what shes says about upping the dose. I am starting a new job in a month and really dont want to be feeling unwell then. I think it seems that fluctuations are common. I still think that the edge has been taken off, and maybe thats all you can expect. I dont want to be taking medication if it doesnt really take away the fears though! My energy did improve so hang on for that to return. Best Regards to you.

Thanks Jenny, Im definitely getting fluctuations, but mostly stuck to the sofa at the moment. I hope your drive went OK, that sounds tough, have the fears been less severe at all?
In my head I feel generally OK, on and off anxiety but manageable with CBT I use. Maybe starting a new job will give you something to be excited about , nerves and excitement feelings are closely linked, you can look it up if it might help, I have to do public speaking sometimes and it helps me a lot linking the two. My main problem now are my energy levels and kind of listlessness , but it is fluctuating about a day or two a week so hopefully fluctuations as you say and part of the process. Im goig on a cruise next week and just trying to stay positive , looking forward to it rather than dreading it and excited about where we are going and so fingers crossed the good benefits will kick in. I wonder how you go on with your doctor? Its 3 weeks since your original post, it would be good to hear how youre getting on...., Jenny on here seemed to have some helpful input too about length of time it takes and increasing dose. I spoke to my doctor last week and he agrees I should keep taking! Keep posting!
