11 cm complex ovarian cyst without symptoms

I had a pap exam a couple weeks ago and my gp said my ovaries were enlarged, so she sent me for an ultrasound.  They said I have an 11 cm adnexal complex cyst.  I'm not sure exactly where it is located.  She referred me to an obgyn and I have that appointment next week.  I am 51 and stopped birth control 2 months ago.  I had been using the Nuvaring for years and pills before that totaling 20 years.  My periods have been very light and last only a couple days and occur monthly for a few years.  I have no discomfort.  I am showing very little signs of menopause (only missed a couple times and no hot flashes).  I wanted to know if others have had similar case?  Did you have the cyst removed?  How?  hysterectomy?  Benign?  Thanks for any input!

    Hi Cindi

I have a 14cm dermoid cyst on my left ovary, mine does cause a lot of pain so ive got my pre-op for surgery on tuesday. In the uk the tend to remove anything over 5-6cm. Mine is going to be done by key hole (if possible). Wont really know untill i wake up from surgery. At your size i presume they will remove it. I will let you know how surgery went when i have it.

Its your body & you know what is best for you, doctors can only advise you what to do.

    Good luck & best wishes

Thanks so much Cheryl.  Everything I'm reading indicates most have heavy cycles or pain.  I don't have either.  Just has me nervous.  Good luck to you!
