I am 11 days after THP and went to the doctor yesterday to have staples removed but tonight I have a lump about 1" round along side of my incision

about 2 inches down from my groin front of thigh.  Is this normal it is harder to lift my leg for the knee lift exercise should I be concerned or just ice it

Hi Katherine1954 I am almost at 4 weeks, yes I had that same lump THR on left hip, it was sore, at 13 days after surgery I had my staples out, it was still So swollen & the "Knot" was hard & round as you said, I just kept iceing it on & of 24-7 by 5 days ago it is finally starting to go down, as well as the rest of all the swelling, but it is still painful, & I still feel a lump. I think it will all go away in time as I see it all getting better looking every day, as for the knee lift I can't answer that bc I have a bad TKR I'm not able to lift my leg at all due to the non-functioning knee so I just do the leg in bed bent & slide it from the bottom of the bed up as far as I can up towards my chest. Long day for me standing in kitchen today, but last 2 days have had really bad front thigh pain where incision is, just as you said the same place. Keep ice & hope it goes down , give it another week or so you mshould see & feel a differance by then.

I forgot to mention, it was very red looking the day after the staples came out, just keep an eye on it for any draining you might see, if you  see any call your Doc ASAP. Donna

    Dear Katherine,

welcome to this wonderful forum  -

I am not sure what to tell you ... does it hurt ? do you have a  fever?

I would have my doc look at it, just to make sure that it is swollen tissue -

especially when you feel that it is bothering you when doing your lift knee exercises -

I am sure it is normal ...

    how are you doing otherwise?

take it easy today and be gentle with your self

    big warm hug

    renee

I called my doctor and he said this is normal after staples are removed it is drainage and should go away on its own and might even ooze a little as long as there is no fever or red it is normal and not to worry.  If fever and red then should go see the doctor and continue exercises as normal and ice if needed.
