Hi there, looking for input, broke my hip 8 months ago. Had a total of 4 surgeries to try to fix hip with no  success, surgeon finally decided to do a 5th and final surgery and do a left side THR, im currently 11 days post op and I'm in misery, im in excruciating  pain, cant sleep taking meds every 4 hours. What im really worried about is that i haven't walked un-assisted in 8 months, im very worried about how long it will take me to walk on my own, does anyone out there have had a similar experience? I feel very much alone, and looking for anyones input, thank you all who reply

    Hi Vicky

I cant say I have the same experience.....thbe nearest I have to it is:-

I had a THR 4 years ago, then a 2nd one at the end of January....4 weeks into recovery and counting the days before the restrictions would be lifted {you know that feeling LOL}  I was doing an NHS exercise......abducting my hip to strengthen the muscle. Done it loads of times before but this time there was a crack. They took me into hospital, x rayed it and diagnosed a fractured greater trochantor bone. Nothing they could do about it, it would heal itself but would take a long time. No one would commit themselves as to what a long time might possibly be????

So Hip replacement at the end of January and this is the middle of August....7 and a half months and I'm still on 2 crutches. Mobility scooter if I have to go far. So in thbat respect I understand how you feel. I have no idea how long it will be before I can walk un aided and apparen tly I'll be left with a dip even when I can.

I try walking in the house without the crutches and can do that for a while but for walk read waddle......like a duck!!!!!

I get tired very quickly and have to use a crutch in the house then.

    Love

Vicky and Eileen,  This hip business is really just a lottery...some of us come out with little pain and complications and others, like yourselves, never seem to get your life back....this is heartbreaking for the lucky ones to read....just know that my thoughts are with you, as "but for the grace of God, it could have been me in your situation" and don't think for a minute that I don't feel for the both of you...sorry I can't add anything concrete about your recovery but just know that many here onthis site are thinking of you and your difficult recovery

      Thanks Patricis

I had no problems with the first one and i havent had the multiple operations Vicky has had...thank goodness

They discovered after I had fractured it that I have osteoporosis and thbat is why it fractured so easily.

Vicky I can relate to not walking unaided even if for different reasons and not knowing when I'll be able to walk unaided

      Its so frustrating isnt it

      Hi Eileen

Sorry to read about your fracture.

I have osteoporosis and am worried about surgery on fragile bones. It seems there is very little advice for osteoporosis sufferers in relation to THR.I am surprized not to find any reference to the condition among all the information that is online.

As I have found there is a lot of info. but nowhere to ask our own questions.General information is all very well but we each have our individual worries.

It seems only on the forum can answers be found.

Hope all goes well for you soon.

      Best wishes and good luck!

      Hi gloriajoy

I was diagnosed with osteopinia about 3 years ago and told life changes were all I needed so I did change, then forgot about it. It was abducting my hip after the replacement that fractured it. After the X Ray they sent me for a DEXA scan and it confirmed osteoporosis.

So its very hard to know what to do and what not to do.

Osteoporosis ....they say exercise......jogging running etc

Osteoarthritis ....they say exercise but no high impact

      OA...swimming is good

OP swimming does no good...you need to weightbear.

Who on earth do you listen to  eek

      Love

      Eileen
