11 weeks on Citalopram, am I having a setback?

Posted , 2 users are following.

I've been taking 10mg of Citalopram for 11 weeks. First few weeks had heightened anxiety, low mood, no appetite, morning anxiety etc. These side effects have all disappeared and Ive had the odd day and even 2 weeks of feeling really good, however the last week, my mood has dipped and this is causing my anxiety to rise, I'm back to looking online for reassurance and feeling like I'm never going to get well and the meds are not working? Need some reassurance please 😌

Your need of looking online for reassurance is your illness tricking you.

It might be that you need to increase your dose, so you should speak to your doctor. You're on a low dose, so there is no shame or judgement for needing a little more support.

Citalopram worked for you before, so you know it works. From experience, if you increase your dose, you will get some of the aide effects again whilst the medication cuts in (but in my experience, it isn't as bad as the first time).

You will be well again and what you're feeling is temporary, despite the illness telling you that isn't the case.

Try not to worry and ask for the little extra help you need.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm taking it hard after having a couple of good weeks, it's the fear of not being well again that gets to me. I know from this forum that it can take months to recover, just needed the reassurance which again I know is my illness playing tricks on me. I thought when I had the couple of weeks feeling good it would continue and get better and better!! Not having taken AD before, I obviously got it wrong lol Thanks again, I will speak with my GP.

Take care and look after yourself.

It's all trial and error, you just need to find your normal.
