11 weeks post op back to full fitness

So I am 11 weeks now after THR and I couldn't have asked for any better progress to date . Week 5 I returned to work and started running again at week 4 gradually working my fitness back up so now back to running 3 days a week and full fitness . (and for all non runners dont take this up so early after surgery ) I am at the stage now I forget I had the surgery apart from when I go out to run I am extra careful about any trip hazards or slipping . Another few weeks and I am going to do 4 days a week to see how it goes.

WOW!!
Heartening to hear your recovery has been so positive Keith.
I'm 41, and 6 weeks post posterior THR.
Played football at semi pro level until 28 until the "You have no cartliage in your hip" bombshell.
Retired from virtually all strenuous physical activities thereafter. In the year prior to my surgery i struggled walking 50 yards.
Strenuous exercise post op has been a concern of mine.
I am walking freely, but I do have some numbness and 'swelling' around the joint (which I am putting down to a combination of muscle wastage/scar tissue/reformation of nerves/muscles damaged through surgery).
A couple of observations from your original post, if you wouldn't mind answering?
How restrictive (walking/running) was your activity prior to surgery?
When could you put your socks on?
How far are you running?
I should add that I have no interest in resuming strenuous activity - I am more than happy to live pain free day to day.
I am merely envious of your recovery and curious as to how you have achieved such stunning post op outcomes.
Really?? Running at week 4?? I am astounded.

To answer your questions my recovery i put down to me being active and running right up until the day before surgery. I was able to do this even though in pain and managed through medication . Doctor told me to keep running as the alternative was sitting on my ass . My pain was referred down leg to shin and ankle and was a nightmare at night and after running . I was also a keen weight lifter earlier in life so perhaps some muscle memory from heavy squats. Not everyone is as fortunate and are incapacitated. If I remember right around week 3 I was able to out on socks granted it took a bit of effort but by time I did my run i was definitely doing it and returned to work at week 5. I regularly run now more than before around 35- 40 I a week and training for first half marathon . The week 4 park run well yes this was a bit rash and yes I did it to prove to myself I was going to get back at it . I improved rapidly from that point on to be honest but each time I pushed the boundary ie 5 _10 - 15k and up I needed a bit more rest between . I run 3 days a week and keep it to that as more is causing me grief with advanced arthritis in my big toe .
If you need anything further email me privately

Thanks for the reply.
I've found the forum a great source of information and it really does highlight the disparate levels of recovery.
My heart goes out to those who continue to experience discomfort and significant challenges post op.
I think I need to trust in the fact that the joint works (I've been walking un-aided since 3 weeks post op) and that exercise is the best form of medicine.
I will drop you an email this evening.
