My Mother took several falls during her final year in a nursing home (placed there against my wishes; my hand was forced!)  By law, they have to inform the family, should a fall occur.  They had her in a bed that resembled a cot, and it was quite high off the floor.  My Mother was was a very strong and determined woman, even at 98 years old.  She managed to wriggle her way out of the bed to go to the loo, but due to the height of the bed, she fell.  On another visit, I found that she was downstairs and had to take her nap on a plastic covered sofa, in a hall.  She was hanging over the edge, and if I had not woken her and taken her upstairs to bed, she no doubt, would have fallen, again!  I witnessed several falls of other "inmates", and they had to be picked up with a hoist.  The staff were totally disassociated from the patients they were caring for.  They were clearly felt to be nothing but a nuisance!

The point is, that in all those falls, she broke not a single bone or hip!

Im glad that she didnt break anything. Your mother must have been a very strong and brave woman

My great auntie had many falls to when in her home because of her dementia it took a toll on her and she broke her hip a few times. But the staff at her home did there best for her but sometimes theirs nothing they can do.

      Hi Sarah:

My daughter's Father was a dementia sufferer.  He took a fall at home, as a result of his concern over the condition of his wife, who is an Alzheiner's sufferer.  He was very upset and disorientated.  He broke his hip, surger, followed by further surgery, infection, and eventually, he died.  His body simply could not take the constant revisions and infection.  He died within weeks, very recently.
