I had a ton of swelling post op, so I think it's pretty normal. I had 2 externals removed and a few internals as well. It lasted over a month so don't be alarmed. I couldn't even sit at all due to the swelling for 3 weeks. When I went to my post-op at 6 weeks after surgery, the Dr. said I was STILL swollen even though it had shrunk a lot. It is such a sensitive area, and we're constantly aggravating it during the healing process by having BMs so it's no wonder it takes quite a long time to heal.

hi Mary,
I too have had this surgery and can say that your swelling looks almost identical to the swelling that I experienced. I did a lot of icing and when the swelling finally started to go down it went down quite dramatically within only a few days.
12 days post op is still relatively fresh, though hopefully you are through the absolute worst of it. I read somewhere about the healing process with this type of surgery and it really does seem to happen with big leaps then lags. Keep taking care of yourself and know that just when you think things won't get better or you feel like there's been a setback that generally within a day or two things will get back on track.
For a little perspective, I am 3 months post op and my quality of life has been completely restored. The only lingering effect from the surgery, minus the skin tag I've been left with, is very very slight tenderness to the area after a bowel movement and if i poke at the area (to see if the skin tag is disappearing, which it isn't). The tenderness is not enough to take a pain med or really to give it much more than a passing thought. I keep reminding myself that I had surgery to an area that I then had to pass bowel movements through on a daily basis. As a result, I think it's normal for a more prolonged healing period.
Good luck!!

hi, I'm 7day post op and noticed that I have lumps outside my bum. The doctor said it is normal to feel and see it coz it is still swelling. Give it time to heal and it will soon subside. By the way, I was prescribed to take daflon for swelling and I noticed its getting smaller. Ice pack and Hot sitz bath will do.
