12 week isolation - likely?
Posted , 4 users are following.
Hi - SOD type 2 incurable many hundreds of episodes, as everyone else need masses of morphine to solve etc etc. Daily on MST, ranatidine, esomeprazol, have lidocaine infusions (which have been cancelled due to corvid-19 until further etc etc) next lidocaine due in 4 weeks which is usually when I get attacks so being extra careful now.
What do we think is the likely-hood of having to isolate for 12 weeks is? I am self employed and will get NO benefits - had my Personal payment cancelled years ago so have to work. I cannot afford to be kept in for that time but understand the issues. Naturally hospital is a dangerous place to go normally with nobody understanding and usual accusations of drug seeking, refusals to treat blah blah...
As a result currently isolated for my and everyone's benefit - right thing to do etc....
Interested in views.....
Kind regards,
Andrew Stearn.

I know it is going to be difficult but I think you are doing the right thing here by self isolating.
I think they are going to sort out what is going to happen about payment for those who are self employed. There are many types of self employment some of which can be done from home so it will depend whether you can still work from home. Lots of ifs and buts and things to be sorted still.

Sarah,
thanks for your response. I hope the Gov do something for those who are self employed as the 'GIG' economy does exist and we ALL need to help.
I believe Mr M Ashley (Sports Direct) may be trying to force the issue by keeping his stores open after the PM's announcement (but he is a revoltingly selfish man that I have had personal dealings with in my former life, so would not trust him to do anything that didn't benefit Mike Ashley first. He is also, in my experience, a preposterous liar and cheat too).
I used to be a senior retail manager type but now teach people to ride motorcycles, a much more fun role, but obviously I cannot work from home and not without a customer or two, too. Which brings into question the social distancing thingy.
I will keep doing what I am doing and hope I don't get a letter today. The 12 weeks thing is a hard task that should not be underestimated by anyone and supported by all. I will certainly help those in this position if I can.
Kind regards,
Andrew Stearn...

Hi Andrew
Do you use Facebook? There is a couple of support groups for SOD on there. One of them is for people in the U.K You might get some advice there from people in the same boat.

Katie,
Good point. I used to go on these sites regularly but stopped some time ago as they tend to be circular in conversation and after a few years it got repetitive.
I have been ill for over a decade and I know this - we all sit and nurse our wounds and shout 'woo is me' for a while. However, those that choose to get well and do the hard things like changing ones lifestyle, taking the medical advice, researching the illness and TRYING to get better are the ones whom will actually come out the other side, so to speak.
Those that just continue to sit and shout, nursing their wounds, complaining about their lot, and saying things like 'this is everyone else fault but mine' continue to be ill.
It is amazing how few of the first type exist......
I wonder if the experiences I have outlined above will prove relevant, in the coming weeks and months, with our current situation!? Nah....
I will give the Facepagebook thingies a go. Thanks for the steer, the email and your advice.
Kind regards,
Andrew Stearn...

Good for you for having such a positive outlook Andrew. I completely hear what what you are saying and can relate to it myself. I dont have a SOD diagnosis myself but 6 years of undiagnosed upper right quadrant pain and gallbladder removal led me to research the condition which sounds truly awful. I wish you well and hope you find the answers and solutions you are looking for.
Kind Regards
Katie
