13 weeks post op.

Hello again, I,ve not been on here for a few weeks, but I am now 13 weeks post op. Everything is going well, 3 weeks ago, thats 9 weeks post op. we went to Majorca with my wife for two weeks, got back Sat 13th. we walked about 6 miles a day (still need a stick, but not around the house) and then we swam every afternoon. No problems whatsoever !!.Now at 13 weeks, I,m back on the alltment, refurbishing our kitchen, walking the dog 3 times a day. I still walk a bit like a Penquin without the stick, but thats mainly due to a motorbike crash I had when I was 20 ( a long time ago ) But no pain, sleep like a log, sometimes I seem to get tired a bit quicker that I did. So anyone out there just had a THR or about to, Don,t worry its well worth in the end, get out of bed as soon as you can, do the excercises, and once that 6 weeks sleeping on your back is out the way, it get better every day. ( I,m 69 next month)

Best Wishes & God bless

Brian

    Hi Brian,

That is remarkable. My husband Derek is scheduled for his op mid July and I have noticed the members of the forum seem to be younger than he is, (75 years)so I wondered if it would affect how quickly he recovered; but you have proved it can be done. Thank you for sharing your amazing recovery.

    Best wishes

That's really good to hear . Were you able to sit down on the sand or low chairs on hols? How about kneeling/ bending? I am going to Ireland at 9 weeks post op hope I won't be too restricted on beach if it's not raining!

Well done Brian.... thats an amazing recovery!    I am just 6 days post op, and already I feel like I have my life back! The operation was so easy, and I am very, very pleased with how I am feeling at the moment.  Very early days yet, I know that, but when I think of all that excrutiating pain I was having just a week ago, I feel so elated I can`t describe it. Onwards and upwards now.  For any of you still waiting for the operation, please relax and take a positive approach to it all. I was very scared of having this operation, but it`s nearly a week ago, and I really did not feel, hear or see a thing.  It`s easy for you to say ( I can hear you thinking) but you will think exactly the same. And I never thought a week ago I would be feeling like this, and you will to.  Good luck to you all........

Hi Pep, thank you for sharing your fears and advice. Did you have a General anaesthetic or a spinal? I ask this as my husband is having his op mid July and cannot have a general as he suffers from Myathenia Gravis.

All the best from Hazel (Derek's wife)

morning Hazel....   sorry for the delay in reply.  Yes I had a spinal block with sedation, absolutely amazing!  didnt even feel the needle enter my spine, the part I was dreading! felt very alert after the operation no sickness at all.it`s probably in your husbands favour that he cant`t have the general, as i am sure he will recover much better, without the side effects that a general anaesthetic can cause. I hope, well I know, everything will go well, and like myself, your husband will say the say as i did, what was all that fuss about.  I wish you both the very best, and look forward to hearing from you again. if you have any questions, please ask me, i found it very re assuring to hear from patients who had just had their replacement.

    Hi Brain

Sounds like a good walking and a good regaining of life holiday! Pleased for you...

Maybe you might consider some Alexander lessons on posture? Your hips would benefit hugely from even flowing walking movements if that is possible...

I'm currently on holiday in France at 16 weeks and still 71 years old. All going well...did not pack any sticks! Kneeling is still tricky but yes possible...walking 6 miles is fine!

    Enjoy new life!

I spent a week in Barcelona 10 weeks after surgery. Didn't even rent a car, took the tourist bus & trains. I had no problems standing in lines or standing waiting for the transportation. It seem like it is taking soooooo long to recover, just be patient around week 4 or 5 you will make rapid strides. It is so worh it. I'm 61 no other health issues other than my hips & knee do to osteo arthritis, I'm a little heaveir than I was when I was younger but not obease.
