    Hi,

My soon to be 13 year old son is on three 5ml spoonfuls of Sanomigran (pizotifen) a night, this has gone up from two spoonfuls recently. He too suffers from the hangover effect the day after the migraine and most of his missed school days are because of this. He also can feel very hungry the next day. You are not alone in this, my son has been having migraine since he was 10, it's scary for us parents because there isn't much we can do. The Migraine Trust has a website for children that has some great information that your daughter may find helpful, only she can understand and control her migraine. If your doctor has prescribed this medication they are at least taking you seriously. Keep a record of attacks and see if there are any repetitions or triggers.

    Good Luck

Good to read messages from others in our position...

My 11 year old son restarted school in september and after two weeks had his first migraine. Turns out that he also has tension headaches (to complicate things!) I reckon he has cluster headaches as he generally has a basic headache followed by a number of stabbing painful shorter headaches (with auras) several times a day. Gone on for weeks now.

So desperate took him for hypnotherapy. He went in with 4/10(our pain reference - 10 meaning the most painful ever) headache, started talking about past and it rose to 9/10 headache while he was talking to the hypnotherapist before treatment then after hypnotherapy it went down to 0/10. Brilliant effect.

He still gets headaches and migraines from time to time but they are definately fewer and he seemed better at coping with them

Eventually got that hospital appointment, and they prescribed Pizotifen which he started taking 6 days ago. I have already noticed some big differences:

He now manages to go to sleep immediately and it is much deeper.

He is actually wanting to eat breakfast now (under protest before!)

He certainly is more relaxed and happier to be with the rest of the family.

He still gets headaches but doesnt feel the need to mention them so I suspect that they arnt as bad.

He hasnt mentioned the visual disturbances since taking them.

His brothers are telling him they love him again!!!!!!

He is eating more and he is aware of this so we try to offer him healthy substitutes.

He is taking part in family activities again.

Dont get me wrong, he has had one off day, but his personality seems to be relaxed and therefore better able to cope with it.

So, so far, there are alot of pluses. Lets hope that it continues.
