13 years of physical symptoms without feeling anxious .

I have had terrible physical symptoms for 13 yrs now. Started when I was driving my son to school and started shaking and my heart racing. Thought I was having heart attack. Went to ER and all clear. Then the symptoms started coming almost daily. Usually starts by a numbness in left eye and side of face. Then I feel weak and faint and have inner shakes. Have had many many tests all negative so they said it was anxiety. But I don't get anxiety and then the symptoms come. The symptoms will sometimes give me anxiety because I think this is the time something bad is going to happen. And they don't come after any stressful event they just show up out of the blue. Doctor started me on Amitriptyline and Xanax and it seemed to help for awhile. After 2 yrs went off the Amitriptyline and just took .25 xanax when the symptoms came. Now they are coming back more frequently. Went back on the Amitriptyline but it's not helping at all. I can deal with it now and again but when it comes for days in a row I can't stand it. I don't know anyone else that is dealing with this problem.

take comfort in knowing that SOOOOO many ppl struggle with exactly what u are, its just that many don't talk about it bc they are embarassed/afraid.

ive been dealing with very similar issue for 10 years. A therapist helped me greatly, better than any meds!

At first I could not believe that my symptoms were caused by anxiety because I'm a pretty grounded person and don't feel like I'm overly anxious. But after tons of tests all coming back normal I guess it must be anxiety. I am talking to a psychiatrist and she is putting me on different meds so we shall see.

    Hi Lisa,

I have the same. For years I had terrible anxiety which I finally learned to control. For a few years now, I don't get the anxiety but I get loads and I mean LOADS of physical symptoms. To be honest I preferred the anxiety 😦

My problem is I never feel anxious before the symptoms come on. Sometimes they then make me anxious because I think this is the time something is really wrong. How did you learn to control your anxiety?

Hi I'm glad I've come across this forum, I'm suffering the same with health anxiety I get lots of symptoms, shaking, pressure in my eyes, headache, dizziness, I agree with you having these symptoms makes it spiral out of control i just hope each morning the feelings will have gone away but I still have them, exercise gives me a short break from it if I stick my headphones on and go the bike or treadmill, keep going and when you feel the symptoms coming try and distract yourself from thinking about it 'easier said than done'

    Good luck
