14 months on Citalopram

Posted , 8 users are following.

I started taking Citalopram at the beginning of December 2018 for panic attacks/anxiety.

After 2.5 months of various horrible side effects Citalopram worked!

Now I am thinking to stop as I would like to give my system a break.

I am already scared that one day in the future I will need the drug again and will have to put up with the same terrible side effects.

I suppose though that for now I have been on for long enough.

How long do people normally take it for anxiety?

thank you

ive been on /off for years, its worked well for me this time, as i am perimenopausal & started having awful anxiety, i am fine most if the time, but periods seem to trigger a slight relapse every month, which is driving me mad x

what i think is that these sideeffects you are describing are the same side effects you describe the last time you where on celexa .so the answer is yes is normal.

from my experience stopping this drug after 3 years of use was the biggest mistake of my life. I stopped it thinking I am all recovered and feel great. 7 months I managed to be off it with no anxiety and felt fine, weaned myself slowly. then bam out of nowhere horrible anxiety struck me with full force way worse then ever before. so I went back in the medication and now week 16 on the same dose still struggling but much better. this time round it took much longer to stabilize with side effects being absolutely horrible. I am never coming off it, there is a reason you feel good on it it's because it's working. maybe you will manage with being off it but in my case it was horrible, some people just need it for life.

      I will ask the Gp.

In my past experiences I am off for approx 2/3 years once for 4 years.

It's difficult to make a decision.

My only reason to wanting to stop really is the weigh gain which is marginal but still present.
