145/82 Blood Pressure, Should I be worried?

Hi all, I suffer with anxiety and I'm on the medication Fluoxetine and I recently had my blood pressure taken at the doctors. The reading there was 150/89 but they gave me a machine to take home and it was 145/82. Could this be my medication or anxiety related or could I be living an unhealthy lifestyle? I have started exercising lately and eating less and also cutting down on drinking alcohol. Apparently at my age it shouldn't be any more than 120/80 and mines is far above that. I am only in my early 20's. Any advise?

Beezwax...O!....145/82 is fine. BP fluctuates from minute to minute. I'm surprised you were  given a machine to take home just on one reading of 150/89. That could have been 'white coat syndrome'., where people are nervous at the Dr office, & doctors are very well aware of this.

Now, 120/80 used to be the 'golden reading', but doctors have come to the realization that not everyone can have 120/80 readings. There are many factors to consider...age, sex.. etc.etc.

You are doing the right things by exercising, eating less & reducing the alcohol intake. You may be eating less, but just what are you eating?????

Worry just drives the numbers up...so try to relax. Please let me know how you get on .

Well yes as you are so young then you would be expected to have a lower reading, but having said that, your readings are not much to be concerned about.  It  sounds as though you are taking steps to be more fit and healthy.  Combined with this and trying to reduce all salt in your diet (that includes all processed meats) plus sticking to decaf drinks, could lead to your BP dropping to normal for your age.  Do some yoga, Tai Chi and/or meditation, and your anxiety will improve as well.  Come back and let us know how successful you have been!  Good luck.
