15 Mg Mirtazapine Withdrawal side effects

Hi All,

I am a 21 year old located in london. I have been on mirtazapine for roughly 3 months now, maybe a little longer. I started on these due to a struggle to sleep on a night leading into daytime anxiety.

I am now not struggling at all, been through a break up and battled a new job in a new city. I have never felt better than what I do now.

I have however noticed that i have struggled with low libido and show less emotions than what i was doing before i started taking them.

I am now at a point where i do not have anxiety nor trouble sleeping and would like to come off them. I have sat and read all the negative withdrawal symptoms but i would like some positive feedback from someone in a similar scenario to myself. I really want to get off these now and enjoy my life to the max!

Thanks in advance,

Hello. I didn't want to read and run!

I recently stopped taking mirtazapine at 3.75mg - cold turkey. The positive feedback is that it can be done and, in a sense, it was good not to have to go through months and months of tapering and obsessing over trying to get rid of it. I'd been trying to taper since the new year but I just needed it out of my system. To be perfectly honest with you, though, I wouldn't 'jump' from 15mg. That's probably not what you want to hear, but the withdrawals can - for some of us - be pretty brutal. Is it possible for you to cut to half a tablet for a few weeks and see how you go, then half again?

I was ill for a week and then started to feel better on days 8 and 9. I feel well today but I am taking another antidepressant which is probably helping, particularly with sleep.

I had a very rough week coming off it, but I am so glad to have it out of my system. It was doing nothing for me and, if anything, was actually making me feel worse. I know from trawling this site looking for positivity that there are lots of negative stories but it can be done.

    Good luck

Having been on it for only 3 months will work in your favour. I read on a support group of a lady who was on it a similar time, but she did cut half and then half again over a number of weeks. She 'jumped' at 3.75mg to and seems to have had a better time of it than I did.

We're all different so it's difficult to know ahead of dropping whether you'll be badly affected or not. Please go carefully.
