15 weeks post LTHP...

Hi I am 15 weeks post op and am pretty good really; I didn't have any real problems and can walk without a limp for up to 6 miles. Just wondered if anyone else still has thigh pain at this stage; whenever I have been sitting for a while it is extremely painful to walk. The pain is more like an ache so not intense. Just looking for shared symptoms really!

I got that post hip resufacting aop in my good leg and have started getting it again post knee arthroscopy

The physio said it's a tight ITB which I'd always tried stretching but he said its hard to stretch and seeing as it runs from outside the knee to outside the hip I go along with that.

He's given me some stretches which seen to be working

When you've had an op like yours some of the musales are bound to have weakened and others have taken.over.

Thanks Larry, what's ITB and can you describe the stretches. I'm not seeing a physio any more although I am doing the exercises he gave me they clearly aren't enough.

    Hi Howeller -

Wow,  you seem to be doing really great !!!

I am 5 weeks post op of 2nd L  THR and about 6 months of 1 st one -

So my recovery was not optimal as other hip became more and more painful - in my case, my thigh had a dull ache and was so tender when I touched it - \

well, if you think about it, a rod has been hammered in and it will take time to heal and get this hardware to be integrated ... sort of knitting the tissue ...

if it gets worse or if you are really worried, please contact your surgeon ...

    big warm hug

      Thanks Renee,

I am also going to have my other hip done but am waiting a year so this one can heal completely; another reply has said it does eventually get better so fingers crossed! :-)

It's the iliotibial band and apparently it's well known for tightening up when there's knee/problems.

When I went to the physio mine was tight just above the knee and on the outside but it can also be tight near the hip.

Have a Google and a stretch will come up.

One of the stretches he have me was...

Back against the wall with your feet as near to wall as you can get and close together.

Grip a folded towel between your knees and squat down as far as is comfortable and back up, all the while gripping the towel tightly.

      I.could feelb

      Sorry..... I could feel.that stretch.above the knee.

This exercise i biased towards knee problems but it still helps that ache.

    Hi Howeller

I think thigh pain is quite common after any exercise, I'm 12 months post op now climbed Snowdon a couple of weeks ago, didn't get right to the top but not far off, well impressed with my effort😁 But I can say to you that it's probably only the last 2 months when my aches and pains have subsided and I feel normal again, I would constantly have aches and stiffness, not just after walking but getting of the sofa and out of bed etc , and all of a sudden these went and I would just ache after physical exercise ie cycling walking or going to the gym which I think is normal, I'm surprised how I now feel, at your stage I was probably doing what you are doing but always felt achy, hopefully you will be like me and eventually stop aching. I'm not sure of your age I'm 55 and we are not getting any younger 25 in my head😐 this is probably a contributory factor also to aches and pains, other hippies mention watching the op on YouTube and that's why we ache so much but I've never been able to watch it, I'm not squeamish where other people are concerned but don't want to see what's happened to me, anyway good luck I'm sure the aches will stop soon, keep moving and be positive

    Regards

    Vicki 😀

      Hi Victoria

thanks for that detailed reply it has really cheered me up. BTW I'm 64 but was reasonably fit before with no limping just pain and not much sleep. I hoped that this aching would go in time and you have helped me feel more optomistic about it. I agree about watching the op; it fills me with horror too!

      Regards Howeller :-)

I'm so glad I found this forum when I had my TRHR in May. I'm now 6 months post op and still have aches and pains all over the place so it's such a relief to read that other people do to. You often read of some practically running  a marathon at about week three and it's quite demoralising at times. I ws very fit until I was unable to walk even a few paces without cructhes for ten months prior to the operation. Now I have just walked the downs with my dogs for an hour and will spend the afternoon gardening but like some of you have commented, getting up from a chair and getting going is still painful and niggly pains spring up all over the place which I'm told is muscles, tendons etc recovering, BUT, of course the horrible hip pain has gone so it's all bearable but reasuuring when you know you aren't the only one.

Isnt it wonderful to realize after THR the pain that is happening now is so much more minimal that what it was. I will take discomfort anytime compared to feeling like a cripple. I am grateful....

      Hi Gillian,

yes knowing it's par for the course makes it a lot easier to bear rather than worrying that it might be something not right with the op
