15 years of chronic neck pain that comes and goes and radiates down left arm.

Hi, I am currently suffering with this terrible neck pain that radiates down my left arm and causes pins and needles in my hand. I have had this same condition for a good 15 years. It started as a teenager and comes and goes. When the pain is really bad I am in agony. Also when I breath in and out I get a shooting pain down my arm. When it is causing me problems I can't move, drive or do anything so that is why I haven't been to the GP about it. Painkillers don't touch the pain and it gets worse when I have a virus or really tired. When I don't have pain I do notice that I have restricted movement in my neck and it pops and cracks easily when strained. It hasn't got worse over the years but it is a nusiance and would like to know what it is and what I can do about it. Thanks

It does sound like cervical spondylosis, i.e. wear and tear in neck area causing various nerve symptoms/reactions. Might be wise to see your Gp and try and get a referral for an MRI scan as this will reveal if it is C/S. Xrays tend to be unreliable for this condition. If so, there is advice on this site for managing the problem, before opting for painkilling medications or even more serious interventions.

I had severe neck pain along with headaches.

I use an osteopath to treat me now instead of my doctor and pills.

I suggest you research osteopathy and other alternative therapies when you are well enough.
